MOBERLY, MO (May 25, 2011) - The Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce ULMA Late Models will make their first 2011 appearance at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri, this Sunday, May 29.  What started out as a normal points-earning event at the raceway recently turned into a special event with an increased payout and double points for drivers.  This weekend’s race pays the winner a whopping $1,000 to win the main event!  Participants must abide by ULMA rules and be members of ULMA to compete in the event; memberships are available for $50 on site the day of the race.  There is a $50 entry fee for all drivers participating in the race (separate from the membership fee).  For complete details, be sure to check out the special event flyer for this event, which is located on the ULMA website and also at www.24racewayinmoberly.com.   All cars must go thru pre-race technical inspection prior to the event, the left-front fender; hood and mud plugs must be removed from car for inspection.  Pre-tech starts at 3:30 and ends at the start of hot laps!  The very reasonable Admission Prices for Moberly this weekend are as follows:  Grandstand Ticket Prices for Adults -$12, Seniors and Teens (13-17) - $10, Kids (6-12) - $5, Kids 5 and under are Free.  Pit Pass - $25 and Pit Pass - 10 years and under - $10.  Joining the late models for this program will be IMCA Type Sport Mods, Stock Cars, USRA Type Hobby Stocks and 4-Cylinders.  Gates Open at 3, Hot Laps at 5:30, and Racing begins at 6.  We hope you will join us for this weekend’s racing at 24 Raceway!

Lucas Oil Speedway was one of two ULMA tracks able to hold their event last weekend and a large field of cars made their way to the track for competition in four heat races, a b-main and main event for the 28 cars on hand, 20 ULMA members.  John Binning and Tommy Cordray were among the heat race winners as drivers battled their way through the field to set the stage for the 20-lap main event.  Multiple-time speedway and ULMA winner, Rylan Long and Steve Clancy brought the stellar field to the green flag for the start of the race with Binning and Cordray in close proximity.  Long and Clancy looked nearly equal at the start of the race while unfortunately mechanical woes put Cordray out of the race for the night early on.  Lap-after-lap Long built a strong lead on the field over non ULMA member Rex Merritt, Clancy, Binning, and eighth-starting Jason Bodenhamer inside the top five.  With Long fully in control of this one, the best battle on the speedway was a fierce showdown between Clancy and Bodenhamer for third.  On lap 16, Bodenhamer was finally able to complete the pass to take home the third position behind winner Long, and second-place runner Merritt.  Clancy held strong for fourth while Binning brought home a top five.  Chris Hawkins and Larry Jones also took top ten finishes as ULMA members.  There will be no ULMA racing at the Speedway this weekend due to a special event.  For more information on the facility and schedule, visit www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Missouri was the other track able to host racing action last weekend.  Just four cars made their way to the track for competition but history was made when pre-teen driver Jake Griffin became the youngest-ever winner in ULMA by securing the victory.  The young driver is looking strong early on this season on his quest to bring home the rookie of the year title.  ULMA members Robby Warner, Danny Lorton, and Dave Miller finished behind the winner.  The track will open its gates once again this Saturday night for racing action, complete details at www.scotlandcountyspeedway.com.

Unfortunately, wet weather forced the cancellation of racing at both Callaway Raceway in Fulton and Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg last weekend.  However, both tracks will be back in action this weekend with ULMA points-earning events.  Be sure to log onto www.callawayraceways for complete Friday night race details and www.centralmissourispeedway.net for Saturday night racing details.

ULMA is just over a month away from the premiere events on the 2011 schedule as the ULMA Triple Crown Showdown is on the horizon.  Drivers will have five opportunities to earn double points and increased purse money, as well as added special trophies courtesy of Mr. G’s Liquor in California, Missouri, courtesy of gracious businesses.  This exciting stretch of racing centered on the Independence Day holiday week should be an exciting event for participating drivers.  ULMA is seeking businesses wishing to add to the fund, late model or racing fans in general may also kick into the purse with donated purse money to help make this very special week of racing even more meaningful to participating drivers.  During this stretch of racing, ULMA will make its first-ever appearance at Double X Speedway in California, Missouri, this marks the first time in many years that late models will race at the fan-favorite racing venue and will likely be the talk of the town once completed.  Lucas Oil Speedway, Callaway Raceway, Scotland County, and Central Missouri Speedway are also part of the Triple Crown Action.
