Park Jefferson brings IMCA back to Saturday shows

JEFFERSON, S.D. (January 24, 2011) – Saturday race programs at Park Jefferson Speedway will sport five IMCA divisions this season.

Modifieds, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods return to the fast 4/10-mile dirt oval for the first time in three years, while Mach-1 Sport Compacts debut at the Jefferson venue.

Opening night is scheduled for April 23, with IMCA points awarded through Sept. 3.

“We were aware of issues and concerns drivers and fans had when we took over the track,” said Brian Leimbach, track general manager and racing division president of Xcelerate Live Entertainment Group, which purchased the facility. “We hosted a drivers’ meeting in December and the majority wanted to race with IMCA.”

“It became apparent at that meeting which classes would get the most participation. We’re confident each of the IMCA divisions will get good, consistent car counts,” he continued. “That’s important because we want to provide an exciting, fun and fair racing experience for everyone.”

Xcelerate Dash for Cash races will pay $1,000 to win for Modifieds on April 23, Stock Cars on May 28 and Northern SportMods on July 2.

Points earned at Park Jefferson will figure toward ButlerBuilt North Central Region standings for Modifieds and Probe Industries Northern Regions for both Stocks and Hobbies.

“We’re in the process now of finalizing bids for work on the facilities and the racing surface. We hope to start interior work this winter and will regrade and add dirt to the track as soon as weather permits,” Leimbach said. “We’re really committed to track maintenance. It’s going to be a long process to make sure this is one of the premier tracks in the area.”

A motocross track is in the works at Park Jefferson, as are go-kart and ATV races and concerts. Information about those events will also be posted on the track website.
