Three IMCA divisions new at Farley in 2011, Sport Compacts added to West Liberty card

FARLEY, Iowa (Jan. 17) – Three more IMCA divisions will join Friday race programs at Farley Speedway this season.

New in 2011 are the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts.

In addition, the four cylinder Sport Compacts join Saturday shows at a second Keith Simmons-promoted track, West Liberty Raceway.

“In order for racing to survive, we need to get on the same page with divisions that have the same rules. That’s good for the drivers, it’s good for the tracks and it’s good for IMCA,” said Simmons, also promoter at the Sunday Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway. “My goal is to get all three tracks on the same page with the rules.”

Sanctioned Late Models have run at all three Simmons venues since 2008. IMCA Modifieds were added at Farley last year.

“Northern SportMods are very affordable. They’ve proven to be the fastest growing class in IMCA and we want to be part of that. We’re starting from scratch in the Hobby Stocks but what was our limited stock class had very similar rules,” Simmons said. “Our flyer rules were also already very similar to IMCA’s Sport Compact rules. The biggest difference is the car claim, which I like because it puts a limit on what drivers will spend.”

Farley will be part of the Probe Industries Northern Region for Hobby Stocks.

Opening night at Farley is scheduled for May 6 with IMCA points awarded through Aug. 26. Sport Compacts debut April 23 at West Liberty, where the point season ends Aug. 27. Dubuque’s point season for Late Models is from May 15 through Aug. 28.
