RULES

“THE RULES
AND/OR REGULATIONS SET FORTH HEREIN ARE DESIGNED TOPROVIDE FOR THE
ORDERLY CONDUCT OF RACING EVENTS AND TO ESTABLISH MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE
REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCH EVENTS. THESE RULES SHALL GOVERN THE CONDITION
OF SPEEDWAY EVENTS, AND, BY PARTICIPATING IN THESE EVENTS. ALL
RACEWAY COMPETITORS ARE DEEMED TO HAVE COMPLIED WITH THESE RULES. NO
EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION
OF, OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS. THEY ARE
INTENDED AS A GUIDE FOR THE CONDUCT OF THE SPORT AND IN NO WAY A
GUARANTEE AGAINST INJURY OR DEATH TO PARTICIPANTS, SPECTATORS, OR
OTHERS”
1. Engine:
316 cubic inches (maximum bore of .060 over on 305 block) Do the
math max will be 315.9 cubic inches.
2. Blocks:
stock Chevrolet 305 block (no bow-tie, dart, after market blocks)
Canadian block okay. Approved casting numbers: 361979, 460776,
460777, 460778, 14010201, 1410203, 1408851 and 14016381 No lightning
of block of any type must retain all factory castings.
3. Pistons:
Flattop pistons. Can’t protrude from cylinder bore.
Can run unlimited compression
valve relief piston is accepted.
4. Crank:
Stock appearing steel or cast Chevy crank with 3.480 or 3.500
stroke. No knife-edging or drilling of crank.
5. Rods: Any
Steel Rod. Oil pan inspection hole for viewing rods.
6. Drive:
Can run double roller type chain and gear only, no gear drive or
belt drive will be allowed. Stock location water pump short or long
pump steel or aluminum.
7. Hub:
Damper or steel hub. If damper is run must meet SFI-approval

Cam/Tappets: Flat-tappet cam, stock-diameter tappets (no rollers,
mushroom, radius type tappets)
9. Pump: Wet
sump only with internal pump any type of oil pan (no crankcase
vacuum systems)
10. Rockers:
Roller rockers allowed (no shaft system} 3/8" or 7/16" stock or
screw in studs mount rockers.
11. Valve
Train: May run stud girdles but no rev kits allowed. Any size of
valve sprint can be run no limit.
12. Lifter
Boxes: May be machined or bushed for repositioning of alignment of
lifter box for straightening, must maintain original stock diameter
bore.
13.Valve
Sizes: Maximum of 2.02 intake and 1.600 exhaust size nothing larger
than specified.
14. Steel
Components: The following items must be keep steel-valves,
retainers, keepers, push rods, springs, tappets, crank, rods, wrist
pins, fasteners, main caps. (No titanium, composites nor ceramics in
engine.)
15. Heads:
Any steel Chevy head with maximum of 200cc intake runner UN touched.
( no machining, milling, grinding, polishing, welding, acid/caustic
work, shot-penning, glass-beading, nor any other process that would
alter the machined surfaces or natural sand-cast finish. (UNTOUCHED
MEANS UNTOUCHED) must retain all original dimensions and
configurations, including: valves, springs, retainers, stems and
guides. The only work allowed is re-seating the valve. no under-the
seat relief’s cuts allowed. No work to enlarge the delivered throat
size. No-port matching of any kind!!! Any
steel 23 degree Chevy head allowed with maximum 200cc intake runner.
Can run Dart Iron Eagle or Platinum with 49cc combustion chamber
either straight or angle plug head allowed and Pro Action heads are
also legal.
Head bolts
and head studs can be used! When milling can only straight cut head
and no angle milling of any type.
16. Ignition
Systems: Magnetos, Electronic or Kettering-type only. (no crank
triggers) No MSD Pro-Mags will be allowed.
17. Fuel
Injection or Carburetion: Constant-Flow fuel injection or any
four-barrel carburetor. Any injection can
be utilized with maximum I.D. of stacks being 2-3/16” for the top
3”.

Compression Ratio: Unlimited Compression ratio.
19. Weight:
Minimum 1475lbs (with driver, after feature event) weight must be
between the front motor-plate and 12" behind the motor plate. Weight
must be secured by a minimum of three 3/8" bolts and painted white
with car number on each weight.
20. Chassis:
Any sprint car chassis is allowed with a minimum of 80" and maximum
95" wheelbase. The roll cage must be of a four-post design. Frame
and body must be sprint car appearing (no dirt champ cars) no
elliptical tubing used on or as part of the mainframe structure. No
chassis/suspension/traction cockpit-adjustable devices are allowed.
21.
Bumper/Nerf Bars: Rear bumpers and nerf bars are required and must
be steel (cannot contain ballast nor lead) Diameter must be minimum
of one inch and will allow aluminum front bumper only with minimum
.095 thicknesses and must be bolted in place. (No pins cotter keys
or pop rivets)
22. Tires:
Bead-lock required on right rear. Can run bleeders. Maximum of 18"
right rear tire with compound of your choice.
23. Wings:
Maximum top wing size of 25square feet with maximum of 30" by 72"
side panels. Minimum side panel size of 24" by 60". Side panels must
be one piece. No split or bi-wings. Top wing must not extend beyond
outside of right rear tire. Maximum front wing size 6 square feet
with minimum width of 36" and 12"side panels. No foils or rudders
will be allowed. No side foils, rudders or panels are to extend
beyond roll cage on any side and no body pieces to extend beyond or
underneath front torsion tub except for the hood. No wedges or foils
underneath racecar. Sunshields can be run but cannot restrict
driver’s vision. No wedges or foils underneath racecar. No pieces
may be added to the frame to resemble, imitate or specifically
designed to deflect, trap or form a windbreak of any nature. Except
those used to cool/protect the motor & brake system. No wing slide
or anything to relocate the wing while racing.
No wicker bills will be allowed on wings
with any dish at all. Only completely flat wings will be allowed to
have wicker bills.
24. Numbers:
Numbers must be visible and neat in appearance. Numbers must be both
the left and right side of the tail, as well as side panels of the
top wing. Numbers must be at least 16" in height and at least 12"
high on top wing. In a event of duplicate teams must be asked to
temporarily add a letter of number to the location by first come
first serve when signing in.
25. Brakes:
In-board and left front brakes must be utilized at a minimum.
26.
Driveline System: All driveline system must be properly installed,
reinforced and covered. A driveline hoop or restraint is required.
(No open drivelines) Center section must be centered in frame.
27. Fuel
Tank: Fuel tank bladder is required. Fuel tanks must be securely
fastened. Any means of mounting the tank must meet approval of the
officials. Tanks size used for qualifying must remain for all
events. Fuel shutoff valve is required at tank. No electric fuel
pumps.
28. Fuel:
Methanol and Ethanol alcohol fuel only no racing fuel or gas. No
power-enhancing additives allowed. Upper end lube is acceptable.
29. Wheels:
No dual wheels are allowed.
30.
Mufflers: Mufflers are mandatory.
Schoenfeld part # 112535 or Flow Master only. (same as Knoxville
muffler rule).
31. Front
Axle: Steel only minimum of 2" by .16, 2-1/4" by ..120,2-3/8" by
.095
32. Floor
Pan: Steel or Aluminum only.
33. Driver
seat & fuel/fume deflector: Drivers seat and butt bar are required
while the fuel/fume deflector is strongly recommended. Fuel/fume
deflector should be wider than driver’s seat and extend from floor
pan underneath seat to turn-up behind seat.
34. Radio’s:
No electronic on board communications. Official radio communications
overheard by others will never be used as basis of a protest, nor
will they be used in support of a protest.
35.
Seatbelts: Seatbelt should have the five or six point configuration
of attachment to the frame or roll cage. The shoulder belts should
be attached about waist-high behind the seat to the frame or roll
cage. Arm restraints are required with a window net required on
right side of car. Any head and neck
restraint such as the D-Cell, Hans, or Hutchinson is strongly
recommended.
36. Drivers
Equipment: The driver’s suit is a multi-layer nomex one piece. Nomex
underwear and socks are required. A head sock is also required with
racing helmet, driving gloves, racing shoes and a neck collar
required. Each pit crew must have an ABC fire extinguisher. Racing
helmet must be worn when firing engine, packing track, hot laps and
races. Helmet must be a snell rating of
2005 or newer for the 2008 season.
37. Car’s
Equipment: Use a securely fastened steering wheel with quick
disconnect and removable steering wheel. No aluminum roll cages,
front axels, rear bumpers or nerf bars. All roll cages must be
higher than driver`s helmet. Opening on left hand side of cockpit
must be a minimum of 14". Only two valves and one spark plug per
cylinder allowed. No titanium components allowed. There must be a
#12an fitting in oil pan for inspection of connecting rods. A sprint
car cannot be raced without a hood. If a rear bumper is lost during
a race but a red flag situation occurs, the rear bumper must be
replaced in allotted time before it can be restarted. Metal
fasteners are strongly suggested. Kneepads or other devices to keep
the knees from banging around on objects and causing injuries are
encouraged. Roll bar padding is encouraged in cranial area. A type
of Styrofoam or fiberglass insulation of one inch with upholstery
type covering is suggested for covering bars in cockpit area. If
armafax or foam rubber is used it should be considerably thicker. No
mirrors allowed.
38.
Technical Inspection: Cars will be subject to technical inspection
at discretion of the track inspector at any given time. All cars
must be inspected before racing. Post race inspection of the top two
finishers in each class after main event with inspector having right
to select any other finishing position for inspection. Only the
driver and technical inspector allowed in tech area. All decisions
are final. If found to be illegal the driver will lose all points
and money for that night and all drivers
will be moved up based off of finishing order and paid for the
correct position. The technical inspector has the right to remove a
cylinder head after any event.
39.
Points: All drivers will be given 15 show
up points as long as they attempt to race. All drivers will be
given points based on official finishes of the heat races and
feature. Heat points will be 1st. 3 2nd .
2 3rd . 1 4th will be in the redraw but
not in the invert. The feature winner will be awarded 40 points 2nd
will get 38 and then a drop of one point for each position. 20th
-24th will be awarded 20 points. Driver must start A
feature to receive last place points or finishing position points.
40. Protest: A driver
can protest another driver for the fee of $200.00 in cash with the
protest explaining what is being protested. The protest must be
turned into a track official prior to the start of the feature
event. If the driver that is being protested is found to be legal he
or she will receive the $200.00. If the driver is found to be
illegal he or she will be disqualified and the $200.00 will be
returned to the protesting driver.
41.Cars: The car you qualify is the car you run in the feature. If
you decide to switch cars for the feature no points will be awarded
to the driver or car.
42. Yellows: If a
driver stops for any reason other than safety issue he or she will
be sent to the back of the field. If a driver has any issue he or
she must stop and tell an official and they will receive their spot.
If two unassisted yellow flags are thrown for a competitor he or she
will be done for that event.
43. Unsportsmanlike
Conduct: This type of conduct will not be tolerated on or off racing
surface and will be grounds for a fine and or suspension, based on
ruling of boards members ruling. All drivers are responsible for
actions of there crew members and will be treated the same as a
driver misconduct.
44. General:
Every driver must inspect the racing surface and the track area
to learn of any defects, obstructions, or anything, which, in the
driver’s opinion is unsafe and the driver shall report that
condition in writing to a track official. Any driver entering any
racing event is considered to have inspected the track and
determined that all conditions are satisfactory. If the driver does
not feel that the conditions are satisfactory, then the driver
should not race. The driver further acknowledges that he is aware
that auto racing involves risk and that by competing in an event,
the driver assumes these risks with full awareness and
responsibility and will not hold Mid-America 305 Wing Sprints or
anybody else liable.
Changes for 2008 are: # 17, # 23, # 30, # 35, # 36, # 39, and # 41.
