DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 8, 2016) – Friday evening provided a wild night of racing at the Davenport Speedway. All four weekly classes saw repeat winners for the first time this year.

Brunson Behning captured his second feature win of the season at Davenport. Behning started the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature in the sixth position. By the end of lap one, he was three-wide and in the lead. Brunson would lead all twenty-five laps despite a couple of caution flags which slowed the field.

Rob Toland steadily worked his way up to a second place finish. Andy Nezworski limped home to third, followed by Chuck Hanna. Brian Harris, in a return visit to Davenport, rounded out the top five. Behning and Jay Chenoweth were late model heat winners.

A bizzare finish in the Eriksen’s IMCA Modified main gave Matt Werner his second feature win this year at Davenport. Werner would take the lead from Dave Hammond on lap eight by using the high side of the racetrack. On lap seventeen, Joe Beal took the point on the very bottom.

Coming to the checkered flag, Beal found a hole in turn four that sent him sideways. As Beal tried to recover, Werner, Doug Crampton, and Craig Crawford all crossed the stripe. Beal took fourth just ahead of Jason Pershy.

Modified heat winners were Pershy, Rick Ratliff, Mitch Morris, and Bryce Garnhart. The consis went to Josh Starr and Jake Bowman.

Jeremy Gustaf took his third Koehler Electric Street Stock victory of 2016. The fifteen lap main started with Jeff Struck Jr. taking the early lead. Struck would hold the top spot until lap thirteen when he, Kevin Dickey, and Gustaf would go three-wide in the bottom of turn four.

Gustaf came away with the lead and the win. Dickey held on for second. Cord Williams moved up to take third. Struck fell back to fourth, with Nick Claussen completing the first five.

Another week, another win, for Tony Olson in Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod action. However this one was not easy victory. After a couple of early cautions, Olson found himself at the tail of the field. Henry Carson swapped the lead a couple times with Jacob Arp before leading the middle section of the race. When the caution flag flew on lap eleven, Olson was right on  Carson’s rear bumper. On the restart, Olson left the field in his dust. His win was number five on the season. Carson would finish second, with Jake Morris taking third. Dan Anderson and Aaron Hitt were fourth and fifth respectively.

The INEX Legend Cars returned to the Davenport Speedway Friday. For Tim Brockhuse of  Minneapolis, it was well worth the trip. After Mike Mueller and Johnny Kringas each had a shot at the lead, Brockhouse went to the point on lap nine and never looked back.

Kringas followed Brockhouse to the checkers, with Wisconsin’s Vince Bartolotta taking third. Adrianne Hartman finished fourth, followed by Brock Haines.

In the Powder Puff race, Holly Gibbs and Sandy Lamar were declared the winners.

The points battle continues next Friday, July 15th. All four weekly classes will be in action. Our guest class for the evening will be Mod Lites.
