July 14, 2015 — Last week’s Lucas Cattle Company action took place at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Missouri, where Chris Smyser kept his hot streak going by claiming his fourth-consective win at the high-banked facility in Moberly, Missouri. Bobby Penney of Lawson, Missouri broke through the ULMA win column by driving to his first-ever ULMA win getting the job done at Double X Speedway in California, Missouri.

Competition first took place over the weekend at Randolph County Raceway (RCR) in Moberly, Missouri, where nine competitors took part in two preliminary heat races and the maine event. Fourth-starting Chris Smyser powered his way to the front in heat race one to top Tommy Cordray. The Brothers Melloway ran one-two in heat race number two to sort out the main event lineup.

Smyser, of Lancaster, Missouri was searching for his fourth overall ULMA victory this season when he led the field to the green from pole position. Second-starting Jon Melloway along with Holtkamp and Cordray gave chase the entire event trying to figure out a way to get around Smyser.

It was evident on this night that nothing was going to prevent Smyser from snagging his fourth RCR win in a row. Jon Melloway of Hallsville was second in front of Cody Holtkamp. Tommy Cordray wrapped up his rare visit to RCR with a fourth-place outing followed by Darren Turner, Daryl Dooling, Monty Umfleet, David Melloway, and Larry Winn.

RCR announced earlier this week that they are taking this week off and will not be racing as originally planned. The track will roar back to life the following Saturday, July 25. Be sure to vist RCR online for all the latest track news and schedule of remaining events at www.randolphcountyraceway.com.

On Sunday drivers competed at the beloved Double X Speedway in California, Missouri. The following information originally appeared in the July 12, 2015 Race Report from Double X Speedway, courtesy of Dean Reichel. The featured class for the special event was the ULMA Late Models, young Riley’s favorite car class.

Eight drivers checked in for the evenings event and all of them were quality competitors. Heat race winners Justin Russell and Dustin Hodges brought the field to the green flag but the caution waved before a lap was in the books. With the field reset, Hodges jumped out to the early lead and set a quick pace around the tight corners of Double X. However, Lawson, Missouri driver Bobby Penney began gaining ground on the leader.

Penney’s prior visits to the speedway had not been pleasant but that all changed Sunday night as he took the lead from Hodges on lap six and covered the field for the remaining 14 circuits. Following Penney and Hodges under the checkered flag were Gage Wineland with a late race pass to take third, Justin Russell was fourth, Cody Holtkamp fifth, Todd McCoin finished sixth with Chris Cox and Andrew Arfinson rounding out the field.

Callaway Raceway suffered its tenth rained out event last week but the track plans to pick things back up again this Friday July 17 for another week of action. For complete event information and remaining calendar of events at the track visit www.callawayraceways.com. The raceway is located at 7419 County Road 405 in Fulton, Missouri. Call 573-592-7795 or 573-642-6580 for race day information.

ULMA racing also returns to Lucas Oil Speedway this week in Wheatland, Missouri as the track resumes its championship weekly racing series. Speedway gates open at 5, with hot laps at 7, and racing at 7:30. Admission info: Adults (16 and up) $12, Seniors (62 and up) $8, Youth (6-15) $5, Kids (5 and under) Free, Family Pass $25, and Pit Passes are $25. Find the track online at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Jon Melloway still leads the championship standings and looks to be the first driver this year to eclips the 15 events marker. Todd McCoin and Chris Cox have a solid battle going for the runner-up position with Cody Holtkamp and Dustin Hodges benefiting from recent strong performances to hold down fourth and fifth.
