GREENWOOD, Neb. (May 23, 2013) History repeated itself at the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. as Danny Lasoski took the Protect the Harvest A-Feature with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real for the second year running in the Parker and Mark Burch backed No. 1m.

Becoming the seventh different winner of the 2013 Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real season, Lasoski worked past Jason Johnson on the thirteenth round, working the extreme low groove of the four-tenths mile clay oval, to take the unique I-80 payday of all $2 bills for a total of $3,000.

In victory lane, Lasoski gave great thanks to car owner Mark Burch, “I want to thank Mark Burch for giving me the opportunity to drive his great racecar. You know, he builds his own engines with the help of Tim Engler and Huggins Cams; he had a brand new Huggins Cam tonight to try this thing out. We knew we had our work cut out for us.”

Pulling the third starting spot in the night’s redraw, Lasoski fell back to fifth on the start. Utilizing a restart on Lap 5 for the spun No. 17w of Cole Wood, the Dover, Mo. shoe shot to the runner up spot. Giving chase to the MVT No. 41 of Jason Johnson, the pair swapped lines on the race track with Lasoski searching for room to pass before honing in on the bottom groove.

Caution lights flashed on Lap 10 for the No. 48 of Jake Martens, sending both Johnson and Lasoski to the bottom line on the restart with Brian Brown, Wayne Johnson, and Brad Loyet in tow.

Working the middle groove through turns three and four, Johnson was finally unable to keep Lasoski at bay as the Speedway Motors No. 1m earned the lead on Lap 13. Four laps later, the caution would again be displayed as Johnson spun his Stenhouse, Jr. Motorsports No. 41 to a stop in turn four. Johnson would restart at the tail of the field.

Moving Brian Brown to second in the Casey’s General Store/FVP No. 21, Brown would keep his Maxim Chassis winged over on the cushion for the next five laps before moving to the inside line with Lasoski beginning to pull his advantage.

Working into slower traffic on Lap 20, the time with the back markers would be short lived as Cole Wood spun to a stop for the second time in night’s feature, ending his night on Lap 23.

Brown again worked to the cushion in an attempt to build momentum on the Burch Motorsports No. 1m, but again watched as Lasoski pulled to a 3.544 second advantage until the white flag turned to the caution, turning the lap count back to two for the restart.

Danny Lasoski would go uncontested on the restart to victory with Brian Brown second and Brad Loyet completing the all Missouri podium. Brown also earned an extra $300 in the Podium Challenge presented by Electrical Systems.

Logan Forler earned fourth with a last lap pass on Wayne Johnson with Billy Alley following suit to complete the top five.

Johnson would settle for sixth with Johnny Herrera coming from twentieth to earn the night’s PitStopUSA Hard Charger of the Night. After restarting at the tail, Jason Johnson motored back to finish eighth with Dustin Morgan and Lucas Wolfe making up the top ten.

The night’s Joie of Seating B-Feature went to Ryan Roberts. Heat Races began with Logan Forler taking BMRS Heat one. Dustin Morgan topped Rod End Supply Heat two with Brian Brown taking Wesmar Heat three. Saldana Racing Products Heat four was won by Jason Johnson.

The Hawk Racing Performance Products Fastest Lap of the Night went to Jason Johnson with a time in the A-Feature of 16.591 seconds.

The Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real continues to the Great American Dirt Track in Jetmore, Kan. on Saturday, May 25 for the fifth annual Steve King Memorial.

Norton, KS (May 11)—Dustin McClurg of Logan and ‘The Hill City Hotshoe’ Jeff Radcliffe both made repeat appearances in victory lane at Elmwood Park Speedway in Norton, KS, on Saturday evening, May 11, which saw the caution flag only wave twice all night long.

McClurg took the lead from Bob Rutherford on lap 5 of the 18-lap IMCA Stock Car feature and drove off to the checkers for his second win of the season at Norton. Jason Davis won the race for the runner-up spot, followed by Michael Dancer, Nolan Remus, and Rutherford. Heat race winners were Rutherford and McClurg.

It took Radcliffe 10 laps before he could pass Howard Van Dyke in the 15-lap Heartland Sprint Series main event before driving away for his second win at the ½-mile oval this year. Van Dyke held on to second, followed by Ron Hadley, Mike Madden and Aaron Ploussard.

Travis Coop looked to be his way to his first ever feature win in the IMCA Hobby Stock feature before heat race winner Jeromy Wagner dove under Coop in turn 4 on the last lap coming to the checkers to steal the win. ‘The Wild Child’ Garrett Hager was third, followed by Colton Pfeifer and Theron Martin.

Kaid Calhoon led all 12 laps of the IMCA Northern Sport Mod main event for his first win at Norton this season. Cory Struckhoff chased Calhoon the entire distance but had to settle for the runner-up spot. Tyler Watts, Paul Donovan and J.R. Ewing completed the top five. Calhoon also won the heat race.

After edging out brother-in-law Brian Calhoon in the IMCA Modified heat race, Beloit’s Tim Watts was able to hold off Calhoon a second time on this night to win the feature.

All five divisions return to Elmwood Park Speedway on Saturday, June 15. The green flag will fly at 7:00 p.m.

WAKEENEY, KS (April 28)—Wakeeney (KS) Speedway got in their first regular season show on Sunday evening, April 28.

The IMCA Hobby Stock feature got off to a rough start as cars were 5 wide coming out of turn 2 on the opening lap. Brian Stich got caught on the outside with no where to go and went off the back and rolled. He was okay but done for the night. On the restart, outside polesitter Daniel Irwin of Hays took the lead at the drop of the green and held off the remaining 20 cars for the 15-lap event to make his way to the winner’s circle, the first time Irwin has been there in his career. Heat one winner Cody Ghumm finished second, followed by Jeromy Wagner, Kirk Karst, and third heat winner ‘Neon’ Leon Pfannenstiel. ‘Bam Bam’ Cody Graham also won a heat race.

Penokee’s Clay Money took advantage of starting on the pole and took a lead he would not relinquish in a caution filled 15-lap IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature. Several cautions kept the field bunched up, but each time, Money was up for the occasion and made his way to the Jason Oil winner’s circle. Chris Heim, Daniel Gottschalk, Willie Wynn and Brenden Damon rounded out the top five. Heat race winners were Heim, Wynn, Josh Appel, and Money.

‘Sweet’ Wheat Lippelmann led all 20 laps of the IMCA Stock Car feature. Three caution flags kept the field close as several drivers challenged Lippelmann. But at the checkers, Lippelmann was first, trailed by Tyrel Smith, Jason Davis, ‘Spiderman’ Nick Tubbs and Jason Rogers. Nick Tubbs, Dalton Bauer and Jeff Tubbs were victorious in the three heat races.

Ryan Heger of Hugoton took the lead on lap 4 from early leader Tim Watts in the 20-lap IMCA Modified feature. Heger was able to keep Watts at bay for a trip to victory lane, with Shannon Maughlin, Troy Plummer and Brian Calhoon completing the top five. Heger, John Fose, and Plummer won their respective heat races.

The regular four classes return to action on Sunday, May 5, and will be joined by the vintage cars. The green flag will fly at 6:30 p.m.

HAYS, KS (April 20)—After a very successful Sunflower Classic at RPM Speedway in Hays, KS, the regular season opened on Saturday, April 20, with over 110 race teams ready to battle for track points.

The S & W Supply IMCA Modified A-feature saw Rodger Peck lead the opening lap before being passed by Mike Petersilie on lap 4. Petersilie was then passed by Salina’s Corey Lagroon on lap 8 with ‘Smokin’ Joe Cleveland right behind. On lap 15, Lagroon spun in turn one. But track officials thought contact by Cleveland caused the spin, so Lagroon was back on point on the restart with Cleveland lined up at the back of the field. Lagroon was challenged the remaining distance by several drivers but held on for the win. Kyle Rohleder won the battle for the runner-up spot, followed closely by ‘The Terminator’ Travis Sherfick, ‘Rapid’ Ronnie Hill and ‘Dynamite’ Dylan Sherfick. Jason Schoenberger won the B-feature, with heat race wins going to Cleveland, Dylan Sherfick and Brandon Blochlinger.

The Advantage Glass Plus IMCA Stock Car feature saw good racing all the way thoughout the pack in the 20-lap event. It was ‘Leadfoot’ Luke Pfannenstiel leading the opening lap before Jeff Tubbs took over a lead he would not relinquish. The top 7 stayed close thoughout the race but Tubbs held on for the win.

Dustin McClurg won the race for second, trailed closely by B.J. Wagoner, Scot Granzella and Tyler Tipton. Heat race victors were Geoff Jermark and Tubbs.

The Golden Plains Trucking Northern Sport Mod A-feature saw Dustin Daniels dominate the first half of the 20-lap race as he led the field to the halfway mark. But on lap 16, ‘The Frye Man’ Tyler Frye of Belleville, who started 12th in the 20-car field, got under Daniels in turn 4 and took control. A late race caution bunched the field but Frye, who has his sights set on a national championship, helped his cause by being first to the checkers. Heat one winner Daniels, Cory Struckhoff, heat 2 winner Kurtis Pihl, and Trenton Kleweno rounded out the top five. Brendon Damon was victorious in the B-feature. Frye also won a heat race.

A field of 31 Rebel Tank Service IMCA Hobby Stocks competed, and when the 20-car 15-lap A-feature took to the track, it was Aaron Honas of Ellis leading from green to checkered to score the win. Tommy Fose finished second, with ‘The Wild Child’ Garrett Hager, ‘Neon’ Leon Pfannenstiel and Austin Tammen completing the top five. ‘Bam Bam’ Cody Graham claimed the win in the B-feature, with heat race wins going to Tammen, Pfannenstiel, Honas, and Cody Ghumm.

Art Herzog of Hays won his second IMCA Sport Compact feature in a week in the D K Ranch division. Herzog won at Wakeeney last Sunday, then led all 12-laps in the main event for another trip to victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Michael Smith, Kirk Pfannenstiel, Dean Herzog and heat 2 winner Jacob Olmstead. Shyla Hughes won the other heat race.

Racing returns to the 3/8-mile oval on Saturday, May 4, for Merchants Night.

Newly-sanctioned IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars run for $1,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start on night two of the traditional Ice Breaker Challenge special.

“It’s exciting to bring the new sanction here and run under a set of rules that are unified throughout the country,” Eagle promoter Roger Hadan said. “IMCA will help keep this class affordable.”

Sprint Cars have raced at The World’s Fastest Third Mile since the early 1970’s. Once known as the hoodoo class, the Sprints have enjoyed a colorful history at Eagle, which announced its intentions to become the first IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver-sanctioned track in Nebraska last fall.

Thirty-five competitors took turns behind the wheel during each of two test days held for the class last fall.

Saturday’s complete payout is: 1-$1,000; 2-$700; 3-$600; 4-$500; 5-$400; 6-$350; 7-$325; 8-$300; 9-$295; 10-$290; 11-$285; 12-$280; 13-$275; 14-$270; 15-$265; 16-$260; 17-$255; 18-$250; 19-$250; 20-$250. Non-qualifiers from the “B” feature(s) get $100. Tow money is $50.

IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing national and Allstar Performance state points will be awarded.

Gates to the pit area open at 4 p.m. The grandstand opens at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Saturday spectator admission is $15 for adults. Children ages six to 12 are $5 and five and under get in free. Pit passes are $25.

An open practice for all divisions runs from 7-11 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. Pit passes are $10 and grandstand admission is free.

More information about the Ice Breaker Challenge, sponsored by Auto Trans Matic, is available by calling 402 238-2595 or 402 781-2243, and at the www.eagleraceway.com website.

WaKEENEY, Kan. (April 14) – Scot Granzella took the lead from Michael Meyer on lap eight of the the Dirt Track Central Goodland Machine Great Plains Series event and went on to score the win Sunday at WaKeeney Speedway.

The fourth different winner in as many IMCA Sunoco Stock Car tour events, Granzella earned $750. Tenth starting Justin Temeyer worked his way through the field to finish second, with Jeff Tubbs, Meyer, and Mike Nichols rounding out the top five.

Other winners during WaKeeney’s twice rescheduled Spring Fling, which brought more than 140 race teams to town, were Jesse Sobbing in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Cody Graham in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Tyler Frye in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Art Herzog in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts.

Sobbing took advantage of his pole start position as he took the lead at the drop of the green in the 25-lap Modified feature. Three caution flags let the field catch up, but each time Sobbing pulled away and was first to the checkers and a $1,000 payday.

Already on the ballot for the 2013 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Sobbing was chased to the checkers by Jason Schoenberger, Travis Sherfick, Marty Clark and Randy Wilson.

Rookie Colin Heim appeared to be on his way to his first-ever Hobby Stock victory but Graham had other ideas.

Heim led the first 14 laps while Graham, who started 11th, slowly worked his way through the pack, and on the last turn on the last lap, got past Heim for the victory, his fifth straight in as many nights.

Garrett Hager finished third, followed by Austin Tammen and Kent Tammen.

Following a caution on lap one, the Northern SportMod feature stayed green until the checkers came out 20 laps later. Frye shot from his pole start and never looked back enroute to the win.

Dustin Daniels, Trenton Kleweno, Blaine Walt and Kurtis Pihl completed the top five.

Sport Compacts made their first appearance at WaKeeney and did not disappoint. Michael Smith led the first four laps before a caution waved. On the restart, Herzog of Hays took a lead he would not relinquish.

Smith held on to second, followed by second heat winner Kirk Pfannenstiel, Allen Rice and Brandon Lobell.

Cory Struckhoff took the early lead in the IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature and led the first 6 laps before Nebraska’s Chad Dolan took over the top spot and held off Struckoff to the checkers in the 20-lap event. Bryan Herrick was third, followed by Tyler Watts and Brandon Clough.

In the Heartland Sprint Series make-up feature, Luke Cranston of Plains took the win. Ty Williams charged his way to second, followed by Tommy Williams, Jake Bubak and Zach Blurton.

After a full set of heat races, the second set of features took to the track.

Graham took the lead from Russ Specht on lap 7 of the hobby stock feature and drove away for his fourth feature win in a row in the caution free race. Specht held on to second, followed by Hager, Colton Pfeifer and Thompson.

Watts passed brother-in-law Calhoon on lap 6 in the modified feature and led the remaining distance for his double. Calhoon held off Wilson for second, with Pederson and Eaton rounding out the top five.

The sport mod feature was close all 15 laps. Henry Henderson led the opening lap, then gave way to Watts on lap 2. But Henderson regained the lead on lap 3, only to be passed by Watts again on the following lap. Then after a caution on lap 6, Kensington’s Struckhoff passed Watts. Watts got back past Struckhoff to lead lap 8, but was passed again by Struckhoff the following lap. Dolan worked his way through the field and chased down Struckhoff, but at the checkers, Struckhoff won in a photo finish. Watts finished third, followed by Clough and Herrick.

The stock car feature finished under caution. Eric Kinderknecht led the field to the halfway mark, then was passed by Logan’s McClurg on lap 13. The caution waved on lap 19, setting up a green-white-checkered finish. As the field came to the white flag, Hachmeister and Brendon Eilts made contact on the front straightaway, sending Eilts hard into the inside guardrail. Track officials called the race to make repairs and went back to the last completed lap for the finish. McClurg got the win, followed by Kinderknecht and Dancer. Officials also deemed Hachmeister the cause for the caution, so Eilts was given his spot back and finished fourth, with John Annon rounding out the topf five.

In the sprint car feature, the ‘Hill City Hotshoe’ Jeff Radcliffe led all 20 caution free laps to make his way to the winner’s circle. Toby Walters was second, followed by Bubak, Blurton and Cranston.

Racing action returns to the ½-mile oval on Saturday, May 11, with a 7:00 p.m. start time.
