DAVENPORT, Ia. (May 22, 2015) – The IMCA Mod Madness 50 was the big show Friday night at the Davenport Speedway. When the checkered flag fell, the spotlight was on Tyler Droste of Waterloo.

The A-main started with 2012 winner Milo Veloz Jr. on the pole. Veloz jumped out to the early race lead. Wisconsin’s Todd Dart, running the high side, would take the lead briefly on lap seven, but Veloz would re-take the top spot in the next corner. Lap thirty saw Jeremiah Hurst take his shot at the lead. Veloz would return the favor on the following lap and go back in front.

Droste forced his way to the front on lap thirty-seven. Again Veloz came back to regain the lead. On lap forty-six, Droste went back to the lead for good, taking the win, and the $2,000 prize.

Veloz finished second, with Hurst third. Dart took fourth, while Richie Gustin came from sixteenth to finish fifth.

The five IMCA Modified heats went to Droste, Greg Durbin, Cayden Carter, Hunter Marriott, and Matt Werner. Semi-feature wins belong to Gustin, Mitch Morris, and Brian Mullen. Fifty-one IMCA Modifieds, representing four states, took part in the event.

A full field of Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models, were in the pits Friday. Justin Kay made his points race at Davenport this season and made his presence known immediately. Kay won his heat race and the late model feature.

Joe Ross took the lead from the pole and led the first four laps. Brian Harris led laps five through ten. Kay stormed into the lead on lap eleven and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Ray Guss Jr. raced his way to a second place finish. Harris took third, ahead of Matt Ryan and Andy Nezworski.

Kay, Harris, and Nate Bueseling were late model heat winners.

In the Roto-Rooter 4-Stock feature, Brandon Dahl drove from seventh starting position to the lead on lap one. Dahl led all twelve laps en route to his second feature win of the season. Zach Dahl would finish second, ahead of Jake Benischek, Brandon Setser, and Josh Riley, in that order.

Due the length of the program, the Koehler Electric Street Stock and Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod features were not run. Those races will be made up next Friday night.

Next Friday is also the first Kid’s Night of the 2015 season at the Davenport Speedway. Children 12 and under will receive free admission with a paid adult. Bike races for the kids will be held after the evening’s racing program has completed.
