Wheatland, Missouri (June 29, 2016) – For the third straight year the stars of the Lucas Oil MLRA will spend Independence Day weekend at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma. Friday’s show will pay $3,000 to win and Saturday has $5,000 on the line for the winner. Be sure to stay after the racing concludes each night for fireworks.

Jesse Stovall swept the weekend last year and won all four Super Late Model events at the track in 2015. The timing of the event is good for Stovall, as he rolls into the weekend on a hot streak having won last weekend’s stops at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska and Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa.

“It was a great weekend for us and couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Stovall. “We were really fast at both places. I’d never won at I-80 before and to keep our good luck going at Adams County gave us a good feeling. I’m not having quite the year we had last year, but hopefully this is a good start for a strong second half of the season.”

Stovall ranks the highbanks as one of his favorite places to compete.

“I really like our chances at Salina, our record there is good. It’s a great facility and the track is shaped well, with good dirt. I love racing there.”

Stovall leads the charge this weekend out front in the points standings, Terry Phillips continues to hold down the runner up spot. Jason Papich has moved up to third and Dave Eckrich has jumped to fourth. Tony Jackson Jr. completes the top five.

Originally built in the early 1990’s the speedway sat dormant for a number of years prior to reopening in 2011 with current ownership. The track features one of the most aggressive special event schedules in the country, coupled with a weekly racing series every Saturday throughout the season.

In addition to racing the speedway features the ultra-popular Finish Line Restaurant overlooking the front stretch. The restaurant features delicious meal options including their famous steaks.

There are several different admission options for the weekend too. Check out the track website SalinaHighbanksSpeedway.com for descriptions. You can also download the track’s app from your smartphone’s app store.
Among the support classes for the weekend will be the track’s A-Modified division. The Mods will be running for $1,500 to win each night.
