West Burlington, IA (Saturday, July 1, 2017) – Another weekly racing night was held on Saturday, July 1st at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, as Deery Brothers and Hot 97.3 helped to bring the nights action. At the end of the night three drivers picked up their first wins of the season at the track, while three others earned repeat wins.

The 20 lap Casebine Credit Union IMCA SportMod feature was first to take to the track, with Rick Barlow Jr. and Jacob Whittington leading the field to green. Whittington would take advantage of his starting spot to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Austen Becerra, who started 8th, and Scott Williams. The lead for Whittington only lasted 1 lap, as Becerra used the top of the track to grab the lead away on lap 2. On lap 3 Brandon Lennox, who started 6th, was able to move past Whittington for the runner up spot and then went to work on Becerra for the top spot. The action up front was slowed for the first time on lap 4, when contact from John Oliver Jr. sent Kyle Hill spinning in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Becerra moved back out front, with Lennox and Dan Keltner following. Just after the completion of lap 5, another caution appeared for debris down the backstretch. Becerra once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Lennox and Keltner close behind. But after another lap was scored complete another caution came out, as more debris in turn 3 brought out the yellow. On the restart Whittington, who was running 5th, got sideways in turn 2 and collected Henry Carson, Tom Lathrop, Oliver Jr., Bobby Six, Mike Goben and Travis Hartman to bring out the red. All drivers climbed from their cars okay. The following restart saw Becerra jump back out front, with Lennox and Keltner following. Lennox would try to work under Becerra coming off the corners over the next 4 laps, until he spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. Becerra moved back out front on the restart, with Sean Wyett, who started 10th, over taking Keltner for the runner up spot. One final caution on lap 15 for debris down the front stretch slowed the action. On the restart Becerra jumped back out front and then pulled away to claim his fourth win of the season at the track. Keltner was 2nd, Lennox recovered from his spin on lap 11 to come back up to finish 3rd, Wyett was 4th, with Hill coming back from his spin on lap 4 to finish in 5th.

Up next was the 15 lap Sunoco Fuel Mod Lite feature, with Mike Morrill and Jason Masengarb drawing the front row for the event. Morrill took advantage of his draw to grab the lead on lap 1 over Masengarb and Devon Rouse, who started 6th. Masengarb would follow in Morrill’s tire tracks over the next 4 laps, even looking under him on several occasions, but Morrill was able to hold him off each lap. Then coming off turn 4 to complete lap 6 Masengarb was able to get under Morrill to edge him out at the line to take over the top spot. Just after the lap was scored complete the first and only caution of the race came out, as Austin Bowling spun in turn 2 and collected Austin Hayes to bring out the yellow. On the restart Masengarb moved back out front, with Morrill and Guy Morse close behind. Coming off turn 4 to complete lap 6 Morrill was able to work under Masengarb to edge him out at the line to grab the lead away. But Masengarb would use the momentum off the top of the track to take the top spot back on lap 9. Masengarb then held off Morill over the final laps to score his fifth win of the season at 34 Raceway. Morrill settled for 2nd, Rouse was 3rd, Morse was 4th, with Michael Dominguez rounding out the top 5.

Damian Getchell and Travis Porter led the field to green in the 20 lap WT Gabeline & Sons Trucking 305 Sprint feature, with Getchell grabbing the lead on lap 1 over Matt Krieger and Porter. The action up front was slowed for the first time on lap 2, as Shane Quam spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Krieger worked under Getchell coming off turn 4 to take the lead away. One lap later, lap 4, Bailey Goldsberry spun down the front stretch and was hit hard by Colton Fisher, who rolled to bring out the red. Both drivers climbed from their heavily damaged cars okay. Krieger moved back out front on the restart, with Damian working to hold off his father Dave Getchell for the runner up spot. Dave was able to get past Damian for second on lap 9 and then went to work on Krieger for the lead. The battle up front was slowed for the final time on lap 12, when Wyatt Wilkerson spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Krieger jumped back out front, with Dave Getchell and Ryan Jamison, who started 9th, following. Jamison was able to get around Dave Getchell for second on lap 14, and then set his sights on Krieger for the lead. Coming off turn 4 to complete lap 17 Jamison worked under Krieger to grab the top spot away and then held on to pick up his first win of the season at the track in the 305 Sprints. Krieger settled for 2nd, Jarrod Schneiderman started 11th and finished 3rd, Dave Getchell was 4th, with Donnie Steward coming from 12th to finish in 5th.

The 20 lap Pepsi IMCA Stock Car feature was up next, with Dean Kratzer and Chad Krogmeier making up the front row. But just as the green flag was waved the caution light came on, as Krogmeier spun off the top of the track in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. On the original restart Kratzer moved out front to lead lap 1 over Jake Wenig and Tom Bowling Jr., who started 6th. While Kratzer paced the field out front, the battle was for the runner up spot between Wenig, Bowling Jr., and John Oliver Jr., who started 7th. The action up front was slowed for the second time of the race on lap 5, as Krogmeier slowed to a stop in turn 4 with a broke right front to bring out the yellow. On the restart Kratzer moved back out front, with Wenig and Bolwing Jr. close behind. Coming off turn 4 to complete lap 7 Oliver Jr., on the bottom, Wenig, in the middle, and Kratzer, up top, raced three wide for the top spot, with Wenig edging out the lead at the line. The next lap, lap 8, saw Oliver Jr. work under Wenig coming off turn 4 to grab the lead, with Bowling Jr. following him into second. On lap 9 Matt Strassheim spun in turn 4 and collected Derek Schwandt to bring out the yellow, and slowed the action up front. Oliver Jr. grabbed the lead on the restart, with Bowling Jr. and Wenig close behind. Bowling Jr. would diamond off the corners over the final laps to try and work under Oliver Jr. But Oliver Jr. would hold him off to claim his fifth win of the season at the 34 Raceway. Bowling Jr. settled for 2nd, Wenig was 3rd, Ray Raker was 4th, with Brandon Jay coming home in 5th.

For the second week in a row the 20 lap Victory Lane Suspensions IMCA Modified 20 lap feature was cut short due to a time limit. One red and four cautions waved before a lap was scored complete, which forced officials to go to a single file start. Rich Smith took advantage of the single file start to grab the lead on lap 1 over George Spence III and Dean McGee. Mitch Boles would spin in turn 3 on lap 3 to bring out the caution and slow the action. On the restart Smith moved back out front, with McGee getting by Spence III for second. Just after lap 4 was scored complete another caution came out, this time for Bill Roberts Jr. dropping a driveshaft in turn 3. Smith once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Jeff Waterman, who started 10th, and Milo Veloz, who started 15th, slipping past McGee for second and third. One lap later, lap 6, Chadwick Giberson spun in turn 2 to bring the yellow light on. Once again Smith jumped back out front on the restart, with Waterman and Veloz close behind. Coming off turn 4 to complete lap 9, Waterman used the momentum off the top of the track to take the top spot away from Smith. Veloz would slip past Smith on lap 12 for second, and then went to work on Waterman for the lead. But Giberson would spin in turn 4 on lap 14 to slow the battle, and it was also his second solo caution of the race to end his night. This would also bring the race to the time limit, with one attempt of a green-white-checkered finish. On the restart Waterman jumped back out front and then held on to claim his first win of the season at the track. Veloz was 2nd, Smith was 3rd, McGee was 4th, with Creston Williams passing 11 cars from his 16th place starting spot to finish in 5th.

The final feature to take to the track on the night was the 12 lap Sonny’s Market 4-Cylinders, with Wayne Chamblee and Lisa Benningfield leading the field to the drop of the green flag. But it was third place starter Larry Miller who jumped out into the lead on lap 1 over David Prim and Dustin Begyn, who started 9th. Just after the completion of lap 1 the field was slowed for the first time, as Matthew Milligan stopped in turn 2 and Benningfield stop in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. On the restart debris in turn 2 brought the yellow light back on. The following restart saw Begyn slip under Miller coming off turn 4 to grab the top spot away. Miller tried to work around the top side of Begyn over the next 9 laps, but Begyn was able to hold him off each lap. Then on the white flag lap Begyn slowed, which allowed Miller to go by to pick up his first win of the season at the track. Kimberly Abbott crossed the line in second, but she refused a car claim by Eric Eye to be disqualified. This would move Jerrod Nichols to 2nd, Prim was moved to 3rd, Chamblee was moved to 4th, with Eye getting moved to 5th.
