DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 24, 2015) – Jenae Gustin of Marshalltown was the big winner Friday night at the Davenport Speedway. Gustin captured the win in the 50-lap, SportMod Challenge A-main and pocketed the $2,000 first place prize.

The feature started with Dalton Simonson leading the first five laps, before yielding to Wisconsin’s Tracy Wassenberg. Wassenberg would hold the top spot for the next thirty-two laps with Tony Olson close behind. Olson and Wassenberg would then trade the lead four times in the next five laps. Wassenberg was in the lead, when the caution flag flew with 42 laps complete.

On the restart, Olson tried to get under Wassenberg, going into turn one. As the two leaders tussled, Gustin powered by on the high side and would lead the rest of the way to the checkers.

Olson recovered to finish second, with Curtis VanDerWal taking third. Bryce Garnhart, Dan Mohr, and Wassenberg completed the top six, in that order.

Another week — another victory for Justin Kay, in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model division. On lap eleven, Kay passed Joe Ross for the lead and drove to his sixth straight victory at Davenport this season. Ray Guss Jr., was within shouting distance of the lead for most of race before finishing second.

Andy Nezworski finished third, just ahead of Brunson Behning  and Matt Ryan. Guss and Nate Bueseling won the late model heat races.

Kevin Blum dominated the Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified feature.  Blum took the lead of the race from TJ Patz on lap four and never looked back. Blum had more than a straightaway lead on lap 16, when the race’s only caution flag flew. On the restart, Blum zipped back into a sizeable lead went unchallenged to the checkeried flag.

Mitch Morris finished second, with Matt Werner third. Tony VonDresky and Bruce Hanford both came from deep in the field to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

Donnie Louck posted his first victory at Davenport this year in the Koehler Electric Street Stock feature. Louck grabbed the lead after a lap six restart and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Nick Claussen finished second. Early race leader Jeremy Gustaf, Perry Gellerstedt, and Jesse Owen completed the top five.

Brandon Dahl started dead last in the Roto-Rooter 4-Stock feature. He didn’t let that stop him from winning his fourth feature of the season. Josh Riley finished second with Joe Zrostlik third. Andy Loy was fourth, just ahead of Brandon Setser.

The Davenport Speedway will be idle for the next two weeks, due to the Mississippi Valley Fair. The next racing event will be the 4-Stock Nationals on Friday, August 14th. $2,000 will go to the winner of the 4-Stock 50-lap main. Weekly point races will be held in all other classes, with special attraction the Midwest Jalopies.
