WHEATLAND, MO (July 3rd, 2015) – Despite more than 10″ inches of rain the previous two days and threatening skies throughout the day, a huge crowd turned out for Casey’s General Stores Thursday Night Thunder Presented by KY3 as Payton Looney, Terry Schultz, Tim Brown, and Mike Striegel scored main event wins. AM Pyrotechnics provided a great fireworks display to wrap up the evening to kick off the Independence Day weekend.

The ALPS Food Store ULMA Late Models were slotted first in the running order as they kicked off the first leg of the ULMA Independence Day Weekend Triple Crown Shootout. After last weekend’s disappointment, Republic, Missouri’s Payton Looney was on a mission as he stormed to the front and never looked back capturing the $1,000 to win Main Event courtesy of Rains Ice Company. Hallsville, Missouri’s Jonathan Melloway was a contender throughout the main event as he crossed the Foley Equipment Finish Line in the second spot. Browning, Missouri’s Tommy Cordray started on the pole and slipped back to third at the finish. Justin Russell stormed from 12th to fourth at the finish while Cody Holtkamp powered through the field to finish in fifth after starting in 16th. Ethan Young earned the Keyser Manufacturing Hard Charger Award as he charged from 20th to 8th at the finish.

Sedalia’s Terry Schultz and West Plains, Missouri’s Logan Martin led the field to the green flag from the front row in the Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds but it was all Schultz on this night as he methodically navigated the demanding track conditions to capture the 20-lap main event win. Hermitage, Missouri’s Eric Turner started third and finished in the second spot with Martin sliding back to third in the final rundown. Jason Russell started fourth and finished in fourth with Bolivar’s Jeff Cutshaw finishing in fifth.

Stoutland’s Tim Brown started on the pole in the Carson’s Corner Napa Auto Parts Factory Stocks and never looked back as he scored the win in a caution plagued main event that was cut short to 15 laps to due time constraints. Lebanon, Missouri’s Jedediah Rogers charged from his 12th starting spot to finish in second. Clever’s Darrin Crisler captured the last podium spot in third. Joplin’s Johnny Coats crossed the stripe in fourth despite missing the entire front end sheet metal after mid-race contact. Buffalo’s Mike Simon gave it all he had to round out the Top-5. Season long point leaders Kenny Carroll and Chip Shaddox were involved in a mid race mishap as contact between the two brought out the caution with both going to the rear. Shaddox finished in 9th with Carroll in 10th in the final running order.

The USRA B-Mods were the last event out and it provided the best race of the night as Wheatland’s Mike Striegel battled Lebanon’s Kris Jackson throughout the race as the pair sliced and diced at the front of the field. Striegel finally charged ahead and took the win as the “Wheatland Outlaw” also celebrated his birthday with the win. Jackson settled for second at the finish after starting in sixth. Marshfield, Missouri’s Sam Petty powered his way to third after starting all the way back in 17th. Liberty, Missouri’s Gregg Truelove finished in fourth with Willard, Missouri’s Kaeden Cornell rounding out the top-5.

There will be no racing at Lucas Oil Speedway this Saturday, July 4th as we celebrate the holiday weekend with family and friends.

Lucas Oil Speedway will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday, July 11th-12th as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the Lucas Oil MLRA storm back to town for the 9th Annual CMH Diamond Nationals on Saturday and the make-up finale of the 23rd Annual Lucas Oil Show-Me 100 Presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com on Sunday.
