INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (August 19, 2014) – The 2014 season at Independence Motor Speedway will come to a close this Saturday, Aug. 23 with Budweiser Season Championship racing.

The season-long points battles will wrap up in all five weekly divisions as champions are determined on the final night of racing.

Features only will be run during the program and will be lined up straight-up based on season point totals.

Darren Ackerman and Curt Martin enter championship night tied atop the standings in the IMCA Late Model division. Ackerman holds the tiebreaker by virtue of his four feature wins through the first 14 nights of racing. He will have the option of starting on the pole or outside of row one for the Late Model feature.

Close battles are also found in the IMCA Northern SportMod and IMCA Hobby Stock divisions. Both leaders in those divisions hold five point advantages over their nearest competitors.

Alex Zwanziger is looking for his first Indee track title and holds a five point lead over two-time champion Danny Dvorak in the Northern SportMods.

Benji Irvine is looking to become the first driver to win back-to-back Hobby Stock titles in Independence history. He sits five points ahead of Justin Wacha and holds a nine point advantage over Shawn Kuennen.

Norman Chesmore is closing in on his first career track championship in the IMCA Stock Car division. He leads Jarod Weepie by 18 points entering Saturday’s program.

Troy Cordes can wrap up his fourth Performance Bodies IMCA Modified title in Independence by simply taking the green flag in that division’s feature. He holds a 27 point lead over J. D. Auringer and Scott Hogan.

Weather permitting, out-of-car introductions will take place on the front stretch, five laps will be added to the normal length of each feature and the top four drivers in each division’s standings will be offered the Indee Challenge. Those drivers will be given the chance to double their earnings if they can win after starting at the rear of the field.

Each feature will start a maximum of 26 cars. Should more than 26 cars sign in to any division, the top 20 in points in attendance will be locked in and four transfers will be taken from B feature racing for a 24-car starting field.

In addition to the five weekly divisions, the Nostalgia Late Models will be making their annual appearance during the season championship program.

Gates open at 4 p.m., with a drivers’ meeting at 5:45, hot laps at 6 and racing to follow.
