West Burlington, IA (Saturday, June 3, 2017) – Even though the calendar still says it’s spring it sure felt like summer on Saturday, June 3rd at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, as temperatures were in the high 80’s at race time. Deery Brothers and Big Country 103 helped to bring this weeks action, as well as Tom Lathrop Racing holding a candy dash and nickel toss at intermission for the kids. When the night came to an end one driver ended a three year win less streak, two others picked up their first of the season at the track, with three others winning for multiple times this year at the track.

The 15 lap Casebine Credit Union IMCA SportMod feature was up first, with Randy LaMar and Tom Lathrop on the front row. Lathrop took advantage of his starting spot to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Dan Keltner, who started 5th, and Jacob Whittington. On lap 2 Austen Becerra, who started 8th, used the top of the track to quickly move into second. Then coming off turn 4 to complete lap 5 he went to the bottom of the track to slip under Lathrop for the top spot. From there Becerra would pull away in a caution free race to pick up his third win of the season at the track. Keltner was 2nd, Kyle Hill finished 3rd after starting in 9th, Sean Wyett came from 7th to finish in 4th, with John Oliver Jr. rounding out the top 5.

Up next was the 12 lap Sunoco Fuel Mod Lites feature, with Austin Bowling and Austin Hayes making up the front row. But it was fourth place starter Mike Morrill who quickly shot into the lead on lap 1 over Bowling and Hayes. While Morrill set a fast pace out front, Jason Masengarb, who started 8th, was working his way towards the front. On lap 5 Masengarb was able to take over the runner up spot, and now had to work on cutting into Morrill’s lead. Coming to the white flag Masengarb was able to climb up to Morrill’s back bumper. But Morrill was able to hold him off on the final lap to end Masengarb’s three race winning streak to claim his first win of the season at the track. Masengarb settled for 2nd, Devon Rouse was 3rd, Erin Turner started 7th and finished 4th, with Scott Sappington Jr. coming home in 5th.

Matt Krieger and Travis Pence led the field to green in the 20 lap WT Gabeline & Sons Trucking 305 Sprint feature, with Krieger grabbing the lead on lap 1 over Wyatt Wilkerson and Andy Krieger. Brother Andy would slip into second on lap 2 and then went to work on Matt for the lead. But on lap 8 Jarrod Schneiderman, who started 6th, made the pass of Andy Krieger to move into second. Four laps later, on lap 13, Schneiderman slipped under Matt Krieger coming off turn 4 to take over the top spot. Just as Schneiderman started to pull away from the field, the first and only caution of the race appeared on lap 17. Matt Krieger, who was running 5th, spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Schneiderman jumped back out front, with Andy Krieger working to hold off Donnie Steward, who started 9th, for second. Steward would use the top of the track to clear Andy Krieger for second on lap 19, but ran out of laps to get to Schneiderman. As Schneiderman held on to pick up his first win of the season at 34 Raceway. Steward was 2nd, Andy Krieger was 3rd, Daniel Begquist was 4th, with Ben Wagoner coming from 12th to finish in 5th

The 20 lap Pepsi IMCA Stock Car feature was up next, with Kevin Weak and Cody Washburne on the front row. But it was fourth place starter Dane Fenton who jumped out front to lead lap 1 over Washburne and Dean Kratzer. Just after the completion of lap 1 Washburne would spin in turn 1 to bring out the first caution. While under caution leader Fenton went to the pits to change a tire, which handed the lead over to Kratzer. On the restart Weak and Washburne collided off turn 2 to bring the yellow light back on. The next restart saw Chad Krogmeier, who started 5th, slip under Kratzer to take over the top spot. One lap later, lap 3, disaster would strike Krogmeier, as Fenton got into his left rear in turn 4. Which resulted in Krogmeier spinning to bring out the yellow, both drivers were sent to the rear for the restart. On the restart John Oliver Jr., who started 9th, took over the lead, with Jake Wenig, who started 7th, and Ray Raker, who started 6th, battling for second. With the action up front going on, Tom Bowling Jr., who pitted under the lap 1 caution with a flat, was working his way back towards the front. On lap 16 Bowling Jr. was able to slip into second, and then went to work on Oliver Jr. for the lead. When Bowling Jr. couldn’t get under Oliver Jr. over the next three laps, he went to the top going into turn 3 on the final lap to try and get by Oliver Jr. But Oliver Jr. would hold on to claim his third win in a row and fourth overall at the track. Bowling Jr. was 2nd, Raker was 3rd, Wenig was 4th, with Fenton coming back up from his involvement in the lap 3 caution to finish 5th.

Rich Smith and George Spence III led the field to the drop of the green flag in the Victory Lane Suspensions IMCA Modified feature, with Smith moving out front to lead lap 1 over Spence III and Dean McGee. While Smith set the pace out front, Spence III had to work to hold off McGee, Dugan Thye, who started 7th, and Brandon Rothzen, who started 9th, for second. On lap 15 Dennis LaVeine, who started 10th, joined the battled for second. Then coming to the white flag LaVeine was able to clear Spence III for second, but ran out of time to catch Smith. As Smith went on to pick up his first win of the season at the track, which also ended a three year win less streak. LaVeine was 2nd, Spence III was 3rd, Thye was 4th, with Dustin Smith coming home in 5th.

The final feature to take to the track was the 12 lap Sonny’s Market 4 Cylinders, with Wayne Chamblee and Cody Bowman making up the front row. But just as the green flag was waved the caution light would come on, as contact from Eric Eye sent Randy Magnuson and Lisa Benningfield into the turn 4 wall to bring out the yellow. On the original restart Jerrod Nichols, who started 7th, quickly shot to the front to lead lap 1 over Brandon Lambert, who started 9th, and Ron Kibbe. Nichols then held the top spot until lap 5, when Lambert slipped under him to take over the lead. Two laps later, lap 7, Kimberly Abbott, who started 10th, worked herself into second, and then went to work on Lambert for the lead. Coming off turn 4 to take the white flag, Abbott used the momentum off the top of the track to edge Lambert out at the line to take over the top spot. Abbott then held on over the final lap to score her second win of the season at 34 Raceway. Lambert was 2nd, Larry Miller started 8th and finished 3rd, Nichols was 4th, with Ashton Blain coming from 11th to round out the top 5.
