NORTH PLATTE, NE (June 9, 2012) – The point’s standings in each of the five IMCA divisions at Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte, Nebraska are tight as we near the halfway point of the 2012 campaign on the oval. The trip to the winners circle on Saturday night by Andrew Dillenburg, Mike Nichols, Shane Stout, Anthony Martin and Jose Sabala had a definite impact on the current point’s races in each division.

Starting on the pole position and winning from the pole position during a fast-paced IMCA Modifieds feature was Andrew Dillenburg of North Platte. Dillenburg built comfortable leads with clean air in front of him each lap, as he lead every lap of the feature to pick-up the checkered flag win. Heat race winner Ronnie Wallace of McCook, Nebraska showed great patience on the oval, as he was able to secure third place at the conclusion of lap four and with less than five laps remaining was able to move into the runner-up position, where he would have to settle, as he ran out of laps to catch up to Dillenburg. Recovering quite nicely from an early lap spin, Maxwell, Nebraska’s Charley Brown charged back into contention and finished third overall. Battling back-and-forth throughout the feature contest for top five positions were Dave Pedersen of Brady, Nebraska and Zach Schultz of North Platte, who finished fourth and fifth respectively when the checkered flags flew.

The IMCA Stock Cars division labeled as the class ‘too tough to tame’ held up to their billing on Saturday in North Platte. Kent Lower of North Platte took the early lead and would lead the opening five laps of the Feature, before being passed by fellow North Platte hotshoe Mikey Dancer, who led laps six and seven. Dancer was looking to build on his lead, but suffered a flat tire wheeling and dealing through lap traffic and had to relinquish his lead to the current second place car piloted by Maywood, Nebraska’s Casey Werkmeister who then led lap eight. Soon thereafter Werkmeister fell back to the runner-up position when Mike Nichols of Harlan, Iowa; took over the front runner position on lap nine until the final checkered flags were unfurled and flexed. Feature runner-up Casey Werkmeister and Mikey Dancer were victorious in the early heat race action in the IMCA Stock Car division. Tightening up his belts and leaning on the wheel, Kyle Werkmeister of Maywood was able to recover from an early setback to run to the front and earn a spot on the podium at third place overall. Staying out of trouble and running consistent laps was the formula for success for Casey Woken of Ogallala, Nebraska. Woken crossed the finish line in fourth place, taking home elite accolades. Early leader Kent Lower held on and was within contention with the leaders to earn a top five finish to round out the top five overall in the IMCA Stock Car Feature.

Grabbing the lead at the end of the fifth lap and holding onto the lead for the next 15 laps resulted in an IMCA Northern Sport Mod Feature win for North Platte’s Shane Stout. Stout was consistent in holding his line throughout the feature to hold off the hard charging Bryan Herrick of Curtis, Nebraska. Herrick started in the fifth row of the feature and drove his way to a runner-up finish. Also coming from deep in the starting grid to notch a podium finish was Rodger Morash of North Platte finishing third overall as he found the racing groove that worked best for him during the final laps to make the final passes into the top three positions. Rounding out the top five placers in the Northern Sport Mod Feature were the duo of Dillon Schultz and Don Fair, both of North Platte. Schultz was able to win the drag race out of corner number four to take home the fourth place accolades, Fair was fifth overall. In early IMCA Northern Sport Mod action, Robby Kosmacek and Corey Cruzan were heat race winners on Saturday.

Dueling for the win in the IMCA Hobby Stock Feature on Saturday Night creating the thunder and lightning were Wilcox, Nebraska’s Anthony Martin and Brady Weinman of Arnold, Nebraska. Martin and Weinman won the heat race battles earlier in the program in the Hobby Stock division. Taking the early lead and looking to run off and hide with only open track in front of him was Weinman during the initial laps, as he held a commanding lead for the first six completed laps. As a result of caution flags, the field of Hobby Stock competitors was bunched on the restart, and Weinman would feel pressure from Anthony Martin very soon, as he took over the lead on lap seven and never looked back picking up yet another Feature win in his Big Daddy Chassis Hobby Stock. Weinman pushed the pace for the remainder of the contest, with Martin in his sights, but wasn’t able to pass the Wilcox Wheelman and had to settle for runner-up accolades. Running the high groove and ducking to the low groove when needed, Holyoke, Colorado’s Ron Edge was third overall. Earning top five finishes for the efforts on the oval at Lincoln County Raceway was Chuck Ledbetter of Loomis, Nebraska and Benkelman’s Austin Davis crossing the finish line in fourth and fifth, respectively.

North Platte’s Jose Sabala continued his dominance in the IMCA Sport Compacts division with another Feature win on Saturday night in North Platte.
