DAVENPORT, Ia. (April 21, 2017) – Chilly weather conditions couldn’t stop the Koehler Electric Season Opener at the Davenport Speedway, Friday night. Modifieds, Street Stocks, and SportMods all took their first step towards the 2017 track championships. The Late Model point season starts next Friday.

Rob Toland paced the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model feature. Toland drew the pole and led every lap of the main. Late in the race, Jonathan Brauns and Joe Zrostlik closed in on Toland, but neither could get close enough to make a bid for the lead. Brauns would finish second, with Zrostlik third. Brunson Behning came home fourth. Ray Guss Jr., driving the #3 car, rounded out the top five.

The Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature belonged to Jason Pershy. Pershy led all twenty laps en route to the win. Jason looked like he was going to be challenged for a while by Stephan Kammerer. Kammerer came from eighth starting position using the high side of the racetrack. When the top groove went away, Stephan slid back to finish third. Rob Toland, doing double-duty, would take second. Matt Werner and Mitch Morris were fourth and fifth respectively.

Jeff Struck Jr. finally drove into victory lane in the Koehler Electric Street Stock feature. The first half of the 15-lap main was dotted with yellow flags, while the second was all green. Brandon Setser and Jesse Owen each led a lap before Struck took over the lead. Owen and Setser battled back and forth for second, with Owen eventually getting the spot. Setser took third followed by Cary Brown and Eric Sanders.

Tony Olson took up where he left off last season in Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod action. The defending track champion dominated his feature. Ben Chapman fought his way to a second place finish, with Andrew Burk taking third. Rick Wages made a late race charge to finish fourth, while Jake Morris completed the first five.

The racing continues next Friday night, April 28th. All four classes will be in action. Our guest class for the evening will be the Midwest Jalopies vintage racing coupes.
