Back to work at Davenport Speedway
DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 8, 2025) – After a long lay-off for the Mississippi Valley Fair, it was back to racing action at the Davenport Speedway. With the Season Championships just two weeks away, racers were driving hard to make it to the Competitive Concrete Victory Lane.
Logan Veloz became the first Outhouse / Storage to Go IMCA Late Model driver to earn three victories this season. Veloz started seventh and moved up to third after five laps. He was in second by lap nine and passed Clay Simpson for the lead on lap fifteen.
Bryce Garnhart would also pass Simpson in the final laps for second. Simpson held on for third over Matt Ryan and Dustin Smith.
Simpson, Nathan Balensiefen, and Jake Morris won the late model heat races.
Brad Dierks picked up the win in the Midwest Recyclers / Del’s Metal Co. IMCA Modifieds. Brad had to pass early race leader Jace Eckrich to grab the top spot. While those two were dicing for the lead, Spencer Diercks was slowly working his way forward from a sixth row starting position. With two laps to go, Spencer was able to pass Eckrich for second, but would advance no further.
Brad Dierks collected his second Davenport win of the year. Spencer Diercks took second with Jace Eckrich third. Matt Werner finished fourth. Chris Zogg was fifth after starting 13th.
A depleted field of Koehler Electric Street Stocks saw Blake Woodruff score his eighth points win if the season. Cary Brown led the first eleven laps of the main after starting on the pole. Brown would finish second with Donnie Louck third. Jake Lund took fourth, ahead of a smoking Jesse Owen in fifth.
Twenty-seven racers battled for the win in the AVS Hydro Excavating IMCA SportMods. Erick Turner led the first six laps of the main, with Justin Veloz taking over on lap seven. Veloz led the rest of the way and survived a green, white, checkered finish to claim his first Davenport victory of the season.
Josh Starr jumped from his seventh starting position but would only make it to second. Third was Perry Gellerstedt. Fourth went to Jacob Copley with Scott Walker taking fifth.
Lukas Short posted his first Wangelin’s Auto IMCA Hobby Stock feature win of the year. Short led flag to flag for the win. Randy LaMar started eighth and finished second. Third went to Daniel Wauters. Jamie Hixson and Carson Butt rounded out the top five.
The IMCA Mod Lites sponsored by Freds Towing / Cantrell Towing / QC Towing may have had the best feature of the night. Twelve green flag laps with three lead changes. Jon Padilla took the lead on lap nine and held it for the final four laps. It was Jon’s third feature win of the season at Davenport.
RJ Gonzales led five laps and finished second. Blake Gonzales finished third, followed by Darrick Knutsen and Brad Salisberry.
The next race at Davenport Speedway will be the Season Championships, on Friday, August 22nd. That event will mark the end of the weekly points season.
