Eldon, Iowa (September 6, 2025) – The Eldon Raceway hosted the annual Michael Petersen Memorial racing event on Saturday night on the super ½ mile dirt track located on the Wapello County Fairgrounds. Thanks to the area’s concrete workers and concrete suppliers the Stock cars raced for $2,000 to win on Saturday night.

The Stock Car main event took the green with Sigourney driver, Nathan Wood setting a very quick pace. The race had just passed the midway point when Wood entered turn three a little too hot and his car got out from underneath him. On the restart Andrew Schroeder took over the point position and would go on to lead until the final lap. As the leaders took the white flag, Schroeder and 14th starting Corey Strothman came under the flag stand side by side setting up a thrilling last lap. The two hot shoes raced down the back chute side by side, and coming off of turn four Strothman took the lead and held on for the race win by less than a car length scoring the 2K win, which was the biggest payday of his racing career. Mike Hughes who had run in the lead pack the majority of the race settled for third ahead of Cayden Carter with Brock Haines rounding out the top five.

In support class racing, Blaine Webster took the win in the Modified feature ahead of Blaine Bryant and Scott Brau.

The Hobby Stock feature win went to Keaton Gordon with Brayden Wood putting on quite a show as he battled back through the pack following a first lap incident to take second ahead of Daniel Wauters.

The Sportmod win went to Colton Livezey, who took the checkers ahead of Curtis VanDerwal and Chase Johnson. Katelyn Watts raced from the back after being involved in a first lap incident to take the 4 cylinder victory ahead of Seth Meinders and Clayton Webster.

Bert McDaniel drove his Vintage Camaro to the win ahead of Steve Byers.

The racing season at the Eldon Raceway has come to a close and the track operators and the Wapello County Fairboard would like to thank everyone who raced and attended the events in 2025 for their patronage .
