Anderson, Griffiths, VanWyk & McDonald Score Wins On Midwest Frame & Axle Night At CJ Speedway

| May 18, 2025

Columbus Junction, Iowa (May 16, 2025) – Friday, May 16th Midwest Frame & Axle of Iowa City Sponsored the racing action at the CJ Speedway in Columbus Junction. The extremely windy conditions created very challenging conditions for the drivers as well as the track prep team at the 4/10 mile dirt oval. Racing went on and the drivers put on a very entertaining night of action.

The Stewart & Sons Fuel IMCA Modifieds saw Logan Anderson put his “Herbie” number 53 into victory lane for the second time in 2025. Anderson overtook early leader Kolton Osborn and went on to score the win ahead of the previous weeks winner, Kurt Kile. Anderson had picked up the IMCA Modified win on opening night and mechanical woes had bitten the 53 team the last couple of weeks, but the new Performer Chassis liked the slick track on Friday night and Anderson drove a perfect race. Kile ran second ahead of Troy Cordes and Shane Paris. Osborn rounded out the top five.

The Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Cars put on their usual great feature race on Friday night with Hedrick driver Dustin Griffiths topping a strong field of Stock Cars. Griffiths advanced to the front all the way from the 10th starting position and raced past defending track champion, John Oliver Jr. The two very strong IMCA Stock Car competitors raced several laps side by side before Griffiths was able to secure the top spot. Griffiths crossed under the checkers two car lengths ahead of Oliver with Robert Barnes finishing a very close third.

Dylan VanWyk showed how well he can adapt to the race track on Friday night in the Aupp Automotive IMCA Sportmods. VanWyk took the win a week ago by racing the low line, this week the high line proved to be the place to be and VanWyk was able to handle the slick track and drove the top side to the front from a fifth row start. VanWyk took the lead from Trey Rock as the race moved past the halfway point. As the laps wound down Rock was able to close back in on the leader, but Rock ran out of laps as he settled for a very close second ahead of Tyler Heckart.

For the second week in a row the CJ Auto Parts/NAPA Stores IMCA Hobby Stocks provided a thrilling finish. Four drivers crossed under the checkers with a chance to show some last lap heroics. Preston McDonald scored his second consecutive win in very dramatic fashion. McDonald raced off of turn four to the checkers with Austin Stalder and Kyler Burmeister with all three having the checkers in sight. McDonald scored the win by less than a fender over Stalder and Burmeister.

The Sprint Invaders were scheduled to be a part of the race program on Friday night, but due to the high winds the officials of the Sprint Invader group made the call early in the day to cancel their portion of the race for the safety concerns of their drivers.

Friday, May 23rd will be Bosch Pest Control night at the CJ Speedway with a full program of IMCA Weekly Racing with hot laps taking to the track at 7 pm with racing to follow.
