CJ Speedway Crowns Track Champions As Racing Season Comes To An End
By: Jerry Mackey
Columbus Junction, Iowa: The 2025 racing season at the CJ Speedway located on the Louisa County Fairgrounds came to a close on Friday night with a very big night of racing action being held as the Larry Richardson Memorial Features from the race program started on July 24th during the Louisa County Fair were run first before running the Season Championship races.
In the Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Cars, John Oliver Jr. started his night off by dominating the Larry Richardson Memorial feature by leading the main event flag to flag. Damon Murty took over second late in the race but was unable to close and threaten Oliver Jr. for the win. The Season Championship Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Car feature saw Keegan Wells score the win by riding the extreme top side of the Speedway to the win. The second feature was red flagged with three laps to go as second place running Dustin Griffiths slipped off the high side of turns three and four and went into a viloent roll over. Griffiths was uninjured in the scry incident. Wells went on to record the win over Shane Richardson and Oliver Jr. John Oliver Jr. was crowned the repeat Champion in the very tough Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Car class.
Logan Anderson recorded a clean sweep on Friday night in scoring both feature wins. Kurt Kile ran second to Anderson in the first main finishing ahead of Dan Brockert. In the Season Championship main event, Anderson took the win ahead over Scott Brau. Kurt Kile broke early in the Season Championship main but scored just enough points on the night to win the track Championship by one point over Anderson.
The Aupp Automotive IMCA Sportmod class has been dominated by Dyaln Van Wyk in 2025 and the “Lil Speedster” from Oskaloosa placed an exclamation point on a great season on Friday night. Van Wyk took the win in the first main by quickly getting to the front and taking the win well ahead of Sean Wyett. The second feature, Van Wyk drove through traffic from a fifth row start and went on to capture his second checkered flag of the night. Van Wyk earned the Track Championship and collected the $650 Bounty on hinself as well.
The CJ Auto Parts IMCA Hobby Stock Larry Richardson Memorial saw young Kale Hemsley drive his number 88H to the win but was later docked two positions for failure to meet the ride height requirements in the Hobby Stock rules. The official finshing order in the first main saw Jason Schutterle take the win ahead of Preston McDonald. The Season Championship feature appeared to be a win for Tucker Richardson but late in the race Billy Stanford was able to close and take over the top spot as the leaders took the white flag. Stanford recorded the win ahead of Richardson and McDonald. The 6P of McDonald secured the Track Champpionship with a pair of top three runs.
Our Special guests on Friday night were the drivers of the Midwest Vinatage Car Club. Terry Mattly drove his 1957 Chevy to the win ahead of the Ed Sanger tribute Camaro driven by Austin Honts.
The Louisa County Fairboard and Track Manager Dan Keltner would like to thank all the drivers, crews and especially our loyal fans for your support in 2025 and we look forward to seeeing everyone in the spring of 2026.
