Garnhart sees first official Davenport win
DAVENPORT, Ia. (May 30, 2025) – Redemption was on the line for Bryce Garnhart Friday night at Davenport Speedway. Garnhart had an opening night victory taken away when his racecar was light on the scales. On Friday, he was back and looking to return to the winner’s circle.
The Outhouse and Storage to Go Container Rentals IMCA Late Model feature started with Garnhart grabbing the lead from his front row starting spot. Late in the race, Logan Veloz started reeling in the leader. With two laps to go, the caution flag flew.
Veloz’ motor started to overheat and he pulled into the hot pit for service. On the restart, Garnhart would again pull away going on to his first official win of the season at Davenport. Dustin Smith was able to drive around Andy Nezworski after the restart to finish second. Nezworski was followed to the checkers by Matt Ryan in fourth and Gary Webb in fifth.
Late Model heat race wins went to Nezworski, Garnhart, and Doug Burkhead.
Spencer Diercks collected his third Del’s Metal Co. & Midwest Recyclers IMCA Modified win. Spencer started eighth and was stuck in the top five until a mid-race caution reset the field. After the restart, Diercks was quickly able to take the lead.
Spencer would take the checkers nearly two seconds ahead of second place Chris Zogg. Rounding out the top five were Brad Dierks in third, Logan Veloz in fourth and Matt Werner fifth.
Blake Woodruff continued his dominance in the Koehler Electric Outlaw Street Stock class. Woodruff captured his fifth feature win of the season at Davenport. Blake started in the fifth row and officially led only one lap, the last one.
Cary Brown led early. After a good side-by-side battle, Donnie Louck took the lead. Louck had a slight advantage at the white flag, but by the time the leaders hit turn one, Woodruff had the spot. Louck would hold on to second with Brown third. Jake Lund and Jesse Owen were fourth and fifth respectively.
Tony Olson racked up win number four in AVS Hydro Excavating IMCA SportMod competition. Keith Wiersema led the first lap of the fifteen lap race. Rayce Mullen would be next to see the lead, holding the top spot until lap eight.
Olson started in the sixth row of the main, but once in the lead he would go the rest of the way untouched. Josh Starr finished second followed by Mullen, Ryan Reed and Levi Heath, in that order.
A slim Wangelin’s Auto IMCA Hobby Stock field saw Daniel Wauters take his third feature win of the year. Heat race winner Randy LaMar took second. Bruce Noles, Carson Butt, and Jake Gustaf completed the top five.
The Cantrell’s Towing/ Fred’s Towing/ QC Towing IMCA Mod Lites put on a good show. Brandon Freeburg of Metamora, Illinois took home the winner’s trophy. Freeburg started fifth and took the lead midway through the feature. It is Freeburg’s first Davenport victory.
Jason Masengarb finished second with Blake Gonzales third. Fourth belonged to Alex Eischeid and fifth to Nolan Morrow.
Weekly points racing tops the racing program next Friday, June 6th. All five weekly classes will be in action IMCA Late Model, IMCA Modified, Outlaw Street Stock, IMCA SportMod, and IMCA Hobby Stock. Also racing will be 4-Cylinders.
