Kuntzelman Scores First Ever Win at Maquoketa

| May 25, 2025

Maquoketa, Iowa (May 24, 2025) – Eastern Iowa Overhead Door Sponsored the racing action on Saturday night at the Maquoketa Speedway and what a night it was. Great Racing, First Time Winner and a Marriage Proposal capped off an action packed night.

The Eastern Iowa Overhead Door IMCA Modifieds ran a $1,000 to win race which made the event an All Star Qualifier on Saturday night. Freeport, Illinois driver Jaden Fryer started the night by drawing the number 100 pill out of 100 which lined him up deep in his heat race. Following he heat and a disappointing 6th place finish, Fryer took the green in the 25 lap main event from the 11th starting position. Fryer found the extreme low line of the track to his liking and steadily worked to the front taking the lead from Spencer Diercks late in the main and went on to hold off a last lap charge by Diercks to take the $1,000 plus the hard charger of the race $100 product certificate from Performance Bodies. Following the race winners interview, Fryer dropped to one knee and proposed to his girlfriend Kaelie Schnepp in victory lane.

The surprised young lady accepted the proposal and a memorable night has started a new chapter for the young couple and it all started in the Maquoketa Speedway Victory Lane.

The QCJeeps.Com IMCA Stock Cars saw a stout field of 20 drivers take the green in their feature event. Richard Nelson led the first few circuits before 8th starting Andrew Burk was able to move out front. Burk went on to hold off one of he best in the business in Damon Murty. Sheldon Oberle turned in another strong run in taking third on Saturday night.

25 Amhof Trucking IMCA Sportmods made the call for their main event on Saturday night and the race saw several drivers take their turn at the point position. Rance Powell led early before Ed Mills was able to move out front. But the night belonged to Corey Kuntzelman. It is always special to see a driver make his way to victory lane for the first time ever and that was the case for Kuntzelman. A regular competitor at the Maquoketa Speedway in the very tough Sportmod division, Kuntzelman has now added his name to the winners list. Kuntzelman took the checkers ahead of Mills and 10th starting Jarrett Franzen crossed under the checkers in third.

To say a driver has finally got the monkey off his back was certainly fitting on Saturday night as Kile Vohringer scored the win in the Not Quite Done Yet BBQ IMCA Hobby Stocks. The early part of the season has been nothing but frustration for Vohringer, finally Vohringer was able to put his Mopar in Victory lane after a very spirited battle with veteran Randy LaMar. Vohringer hit his marks lap after lap in holding off the veteran by a ½ car length at the checkers. LaMar took second ahead of Daniel Wauters.

Dave Eberle advanced from a 9th position start in the INEX Legends main event on Saturday and scored a hard fought close win over Dylan Manning. Eberle was part of a three wide battle for the lead at the midway point of the main, the Freeport driver emerged from the pack to score the win by a narrow margin ahead of Manning and Robby Morrison.

Racing will continue on Saturday, May 31st as Arnold Motor Supply will sponsor the racing action at the Maquoketa Speedway. All classes will be in action with hot laps slated to take to the track at 5:45 pm with racing to follow.
