Richardson & Gordon Score First CJ Wins of the Season
Columbus Junction, Iowa (June 6, 2025) – Friday nights racing action at the CJ Speedway in Columbus Junction was sponsored by Jamie Lynn’s Coffee House and Holmes Highway Service of Wapello. The weather was nearly perfect and the fans were treated to some great racing with the final checkered flag of the night waving at 9:30 pm.
Shane Richardson scored his first win of the season in the very tough Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Car division. Leremy Jackson led very early before Richardson was able to move out front racing into the lead from a second row start. Richardson was then forced to hold off the constant challenges by one of Eastern Iowa’s hottest IMCA Stock Car drivers and defending track champion John Oliver Jr. Oliver worked all the lines of the smooth 4/10 mile track but was unable to get by the strong running Richardson. Dustin Griffiths battled to the front from a tenth position start and took third at the checkers.
Another first time winner on Friday night was Keaton Gordon in the CJ Auto Parts NAPA Stores IMCA Hobby Stocks. Gordon worked to the front and joined the lead pack of cars which included Jason Schutterle and Tucker Richardson. The three drivers put on quite a show as they raced three wide on multiple occasions. Gordon raced to his first ever CJ Speedway win by getting to the checkers just ahead of Richardson and Schutterle came home third.
Logan Anderson put “Little Herbie” in the Larry Richardson victory lane on Friday night making his second trip of the season to the winners circle. Anderson found the extreme high side to his liking on Friday night and sailed to the win over last weeks winner, Shane Paris. Kurt Kile, who certainly has won his share of races at the CJ Speedway raced under the checkers in third.
Dylan VanWyk continued his mastery of the CJ Speedway notching another victory on Friday night in the Aupp Automotive IMCA Sportmod class. VanWyk started ninth and worked his way to the front setting up a classic battle with the youngster Cole VanDerwal. The two Oskaloosa drivers threw slide jobs and cross over moves back and forth for several laps before VanWyk was able to race away to the win. VanWyk took command on lap nine and went on to record the win ahead of VanDerwal and Tyler Heckart.
Friday, June 13th will be Weikert Appliance Night at the races, long time supporters of the CJ Speedway, Mike Weikert and his crew will be on hand to greet the fans and will most likely have some nice prizes. Hot laps will get underway at 7 pm with racing to follow.
