VANCE WILSON BESTED HOLDER & MUDD IN A-MODS. SMITH BRINGS HOME 4TH STRAIGHT WIN IN B's.

MOBERLY, MO. (May 19) - "Welcome to beautiful 24 Raceway" was the greeting from track announcer Doug Mealy to a nice crowd of race fans on Sat. May 19, 2007. Races full of action resulted in 3 new and 2 repeat winners, plus a couple of spectacular crashes. Drivers Mike Wolfe (Hobby #11w) and Derrick Agee (Sportsman #14 Jr.) escaped serious injury but will most likely suffer the pain for awhile. Both were transported to University Hospital in Columbia where they were released on Sunday afternoon. The best goes out to them for a speedy recovery.
It was great to have flagman Kenny Poole return to the flagstand after back surgery.

BICYCLE: C&R Transmission (Charlie and Randy) of Moberly donated the bicycle which was won by Kyle Fishbeck (Columbia) who was very happy as he did not have a bicycle!

50/50 DRAWING: $150 was won by Chris Kuntz of Moberly.

RACING ACTION: VANCE WILSON BESTED HOLDER & MUDD IN A-MODS. SMITH BRINGS HOME 4TH STRAIGHT WIN IN B-MOD'S.

HOBBY STOCK:
After a patient delay following an outstanding crash on the front stretch involving 2 top runners, Mike Wolfe (#11w Madison) and Tim Dawson (#28 Callao), the race resumed. Returning to 24 Raceway for the first time this season Clinton (Pinkie) Dale (#57x Moberly) took off and captured his first checkered flag this year. HOWEVER later, he and 2 others in the top 5 were disqualified. This allowed Chase Breid (#12B Madison) to inherit the winner's spot and Mark Forrester (#10 Columbia) to accept 2nd. Bob Sanders (#207 Columbia) and Mike Burks (#5B Sturgeon) then moved into 3rd and 4th respectively. Wow! What a situation!

HORNETS:
Twenty-four race cars started this feature. After winning his heat race and starting on the pole, Chad Hickam (#9H Hallsville) raced hard en route to victory and celebrated his first checkered flag win! There were quite a few passes and pass-backs throughout the pack and especially among the top contenders. Finally, crossing the line in 2nd was John Brown (#01 Huntsville) and 3rd Robert Winfrey (#37 Moberly). Lowell Smith (#03 Bucklin) was pleased with 4th as he just passed Brooke Hassler (#21 Columbia). Hickam stated that he's been "waitin' for this for a long time" and that he had "tough competition". It was a "great win" as he thanked his sponsors and fans. Enjoyable race!

A-MODS:
After 28 cars arrived, a consolation race was required following the heat races to determine the 24 car feature. Starting on the front row, Vance Wilson (#1v Frankford) and Dave Holder (#4G Clarence) remained glued to familiar territory and powered across the line in 1st and 2nd respectively. Kenny Mudd (#07 Winfield) tightened up the 3rd spot followed in 4th by Brandon Lennox (#22c New London) who battled with Kevin Blackburn (#26K Fulton). Wilson scored his first win of the season at 24 Raceway and thanked his sponsors, family, and a lot of people who helped him, saying that he "appreciates them all". Super job!

MFA Oil/Break Time SPORTSMAN:
An accident on turn one caused a slight delay in action when young Derrick Agee (#14JR.) hit the wall and rolled onto his top and connected with Kyle Chinn (#81). When the race continued Derrick's Papa Pete Agee (#14 Huntsville) held the top spot to amass his 3rd feature win in a row. A great run for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th with side-byside challenges resulted in Jeff Creed (#01 Cairo) taking the 2nd position followed by Chad Walter (#23 Clarence) and Tony Ratliff (#19T Moberly) close by. Agee stated that it was a "tough night" and was "hopin' the best for Derrick" as he thanked his sponsors. Good race!

MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODS:
Once again the fast-paced race was dominated by Kelly Smith (#82 Kirksville) as he rocketed into victory lane for his 4th straight win of the season. Gary Wilson (#11 Holliday) raced into 2nd place again this week. The top 6 competitors finished as they were on the first lap. As the field somewhat spread out, Brad Pfieffer (#2 Columbia) maintained his 3rd position with Kevin Embree (#61 Paris) giving chase from 4th. Following in 5th and 6th were Porter Collins (#46 Clarence) and Tony Garner (#20 Macon). Smith said the "top groove was the way to go tonight" and that he "hadn't felt good all day". (Sure drove well though!) He dedicated the race to his friend Mike Wolfe.
Great racing!

Next week Saturday May 26, brings back the Winged Outlaw Warriors in their 360 cubic inch Sprints, for the 8th annual Gary Scott Memorial race, being sponsored again this year by Isle of Capri Casino, Boonville, Missouri. Last year's W.O.W. winner at 24 Raceway, Randy Martin, will return to defend his win in some very fast and exciting Sprint car racing! These are the guys who have hit those 122 mph speeds at this Moberly track. Also running their own race programs this coming Saturday evening are the five regular classes of A-Modifieds, Moberly Motors B-Modifieds, the MFA Oil / Breaktime Sportsman class, Hobby Stocks and 4 cly. Hornets.

Admission will be $15 to the grandstand for adults, with kids, ages 6 to 12, still only $5 to see the five regular classes AND the Sprints. Rates for the Family Pass are $35, and that includes admission to the grandstands for 2 adults and 3 children, ages 6 to 12. Kids under 6 are always free. The grandstands will open at 4 p.m. Hot laps at 6:15 following a short drivers' meeting. "Dirt Track Racing at its Best" will take place again at 7pm at 24 Raceway, east of Moberly, Missouri on U.S. Highway 24.
