RACE REPORT by Pamela Hassler, with promo by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO.

MOBERLY, MO. (June 23) - It was another night of awesome racing on June 23, 2007 at Mid-Missouri's 24 Raceway in Moberly - a high-banked dirt oval displaying "Dirt Track Racing at its Best"! Although it was a mostly cloudy day, the sun broke through openings in the clouds about the time to 'iron in' the track. All the heat races were run on a great moist track. Black clouds again threatened about feature time, but fortunately no rain! There were 93 cars that came ready to race! These were dedicated drivers, owners, and pit crews who spent a lot of time preparing their cars to be ready to put on a good show for the wonderful fans! A big thank-you to all who support auto racing!

THANK YOU:
C.B. Riley, who filled in with on-the-track racer interviews while Travis Redburn was ill!
Steve Robinson Racing (#10 B-Mod - Huntsville), who donated the bicycle won by very young (4 yr old?) Jamie Oliver. Robinson thanked all his sponsors (Gygr Gas, PT&A Hobbies, Fuemmeler Tax & Accouting) as well.
"Take-A-Kid Racing" donated prizes. Dominoes and Macon/Atlanta State Bank also provided prizes. Thanks to all others who also were generous.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

June 30 - Weekly Racing Series (and with the A-Mods!) Double Points Night!
July 3 (Tuesday) - BIG Summer Combo! A-MOD FIRECRACKER FORTY - 40 laps
& Midwest LateModel Racing Association Touring Series (MLRA Super Late Models)
July 7 - Weekly Racing Series with Sportsman Mechanic's Race
July 14 - Whitehead Memorial Special - Weekly Racing Series and W.O.W. (Winged Outlaw Warrior) 360 cu.in. Sprints
July 21 - Weekly Racing Series with Classic Dwarfs and Mod-lites
July 28 - Weekly Racing Series with B-Mod Mechanic's Race

RACE RESULTS: WILSON AND KELLY EACH MAINTAIN THEIR LEADERSHIP ROLES IN A & B MODIFIED FEATURES, HEATS AND POINTS STANDINGS AT 24 RACEWAY

HORNETS: 12 LAPS - 20 CARS STARTED
Rob Chase (#3 Clark) had it 'hooked-up' to win his heat race and then on to victory lane in the main event! A good competition occured between Brooke Hassler (#21 Columbia) and Chad Hickam (#9H Hallsville) as they traded places several times throughout the race. Eventually Hassler kept the 2nd spot followed by points leader Hickam in 3rd. Nearby and coming close was 4th place finisher Kristi Chase (#33 Clark) who gave them a good run. John Doctorian ( #2 Wentzville) had a good boost from a 13th start to finish 5th just past Galen Hassler (#25 Columbia). A good race! Chase said that it was a 'good week -- it was fun!'

HOBBY STOCKS: 12 LAPS - 14 CARS STARTED
Once again, Clinton "Pinkie" Dale (#11PW Moberly) dominated the lead but Tim Dawson (#28 Callao) caught up many times and finished in 2nd just behind Dale. On some restarts they were side-by-side. Behind the leaders were several cars bunched together looking for a good finish. A three-wide battle ensued between Alan Hultz (#12B1 - Madison & usually driving #51), Kevin Renzelmann (#41 Huntsville), and Mark Forrester (#10 Columbia) as they sorted out the field and finally earned their respective positions of 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Dale said that the 'track's good - slick in the middle". Recovering Mike Wolfe of the #11 car thanked all his sponsors and was happy that Dale had won.

A-MODIFIEDS: 20 LAPS - 26 CARS STARTED
What an exciting race! Vance Wilson (#1V Frankford) and David Holder (#4G Clarence) tried every line imaginable to beat each other but at the end it was Wilson who captured the win, while Holder accepted 2nd. Kelly Smith (#41 Kirksville) started halfway back in the field and worked his way up to finish 3rd. And what a WOW!! for Scotty Roberts (#25 Columbia) who started on the front row, spun off of turn one on the first lap, restarted at the rear, and 'blew the doors off' many race cars to earn a great 4th place. He was FAST - who knows where he would have ended if there were a few more laps! Kevin Blackburn (#26K Fulton) also had a super run to finish 5th. Wilson stated that it was a "Lot of fun! Touched a little, but it was a great race!"

MFA OIL/BREAKTIME SPORTSMANS: 12 LAPS - 18 CARS STARTED
Larry Krog (#6K Clarence) was again the race champion after he set sail out front. This was Krog's 4th win as a rookie in this Sportsman class (Hobby last year). Closing in with a good challenge but not quite enough was 2nd place finisher Tim Eravi (#3 Moberly) with his best finish. A good race occured between Steve Dieckmann (#24J Centralia), Jerry Ames (#69A Huntsville), and Jeff Creed (#01 Cairo) as they challenged each other before gaining their 3rd, 4th, and 5th final positions respectively. Krog thanked his sponsors.

MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODS: 15 LAPS - 16 CARS STARTED
A familiar car and face joined the winner's circle again as Kelly Smith (#82 Kirksville) wrapped up another good race! Scrambling to join him was Brad Pfieffer (#32 Columbia) who earned a respectable 2nd place finish. Both won their heats too. Bob Woodrow (#3 Hannibal) flew up the line from a near rear start and captured a great 3rd place spot. After a tech disqualification of Dave Kinder (#40 Moberly), Billy Bentley (#4B Madison) inherited 4th with a good run. Steve Robinson (#10 Huntsville) also tightened up the pack to settle in the 5th place.

HORNETS MECHANIC'S RACE: 5 LAPS - 15 CARS STARTED
A fun race for a few guys who turn the wrenches or who just enjoy the cars! Thomas Hassler captured his first win in a race car driving his older brother Brooke's #21 Hornet. He now has a trophy to join older and younger (Galen #25) brothers' trophies. Dad Dale (69 years old) started in the rear driving son Galen's #25 and had problems getting the car into gear so finished about where he started. HA! Mom Pam (writer of this report) was a nervous wreck but glad her family was having fun! Gaining space on T. Hassler was Billy Roberts (#03 Lowell Smith's car) who drove a really good race! Also driving well and coming in 3rd was Jerry Warren (#01 John Brown's car). Everyone seemed to have a good time!
