ROBERTS CHARGES TO FIRST WIN OVER WILSON & HOLDER IN GREAT
A-MOD RACE, WHILE FISHER HANGS ON TO WIN THE W.O.W. SPRINT RACE
Report by Pam Hassler & repeated promo by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO.
MOBERLY, MO (July 14) - Black and white checkered flag! Black and white striped
skunk! Similarities here?? An unlikely combination at a race track and it had to
be a first at 24 Raceway in Moberly on Saturday night, July 14, 2007! The push
truck gently guided the frightened little critter along the concrete wall from
turn 4 to turn 3 and out the backstretch pit entrance. Oh, the jokes - and there
were plenty of them! Some announcer comments went like this: ",,,, about the
only thing on the track smelling worse than the track workers,,,," and then
something about ",,,, first time ever seeing a push truck pushing a skunk - go
ahead Travis and just pick it up and ,,,,,," The racing then resumed with 6
classes and a total of 97 cars. Once again for the 2nd week in a row, the races
concluded right at 10:30pm. Mother Nature provided a beautiful array of clouds
and a later a 'light show', but it never rained at the track although
surrounding areas had downpours.
What a great racing night for the Best Western sponsored Bob Whitehead Memorial!
Whitehead was the builder and primary owner of 24 Raceway, formerly called
Moberly Motorsports Complex, in 1989. It was his dream to have a speedway in
Mid-Missouri. The track began as a 1/5 mile oval but was gradually developed
into the 1/2 mile track that it is today and built with high banking to
accomodate sprint cars. Bob's son Jeff Whitehead and daughter Jill Creed (an
attorney in Moberly) both spoke to the fans and thanked the current owners for
continuing the dream and maintaining a nice facility. It was a family reunion,
one that hopes to continue in future seasons. Grandson Jordan of Andover, KS
also spoke before driving his #8W A-Mod for a memorial parade lap carrying the
American Flag during the National Anthem. He stated that "To my family, this is
the Daytona 500". An appropriate added attraction for the evening was the
O'Reilly W.O.W. (Winged Outlaw Warrior) 360 cu.in. Sprint Cars that provided an
awesome display of speed and skill. Of course, the Weekly Racing Series 'Stars'
had the fans cheering for their favorite drivers.

RACE RESULTS - July 14, 2007
HOBBY STOCKS:
Alan Hultz (11AW Madison) powered the line as he crossed the victory line as the
third winner in this machine. He said he was 'nervous about driving' Mike
Wolfe's car as he had 'big shoes to fill' after Wolfe and Clinton Dale both have
been winners in it as well. A challenge for 2nd and 3rd place occurred at
various times throughout the race, but Tom Elsen (#11 Clarence) managed to cross
the line ahead of Tom Creed (#17 Moberly). Mark Forrester (#10 Columbia) held on
to score the 4th spot followed by Casey Walter (#23C Clarence) who started at
the back of the pack. Good competition!
WINGED OUTLAW WARRIOR 360 SPRINTS:
This 20-lap race proved to be very exciting when hard-chargers Gabe Maycock (#98
Middletown - leader for 16 laps) and Randy Martin (#14 California - holding 3rd)
both had to restart at the rear due to tire problems - with only 4 laps to go.
That left young 16-year-old Josh Fisher (#86X Smithon), who in his own right - a
champion, to become victorious. He said his win "meant a lot to him and his car
ran good". He liked the track and liked the fans. Another young racer Jon Corbin
(#4x Carrollton) was on fire as he tightened up the race and earned the 2nd
position. Curtis Boyer (#72 New Haven) picked up the 3rd spot followed by Jesse
Giannetto (#86 Cedar Rapids, IA). Brad Graham (#04 Springfield) made some good
moves to capture 5th. Early in the race Tyler Blank (#75 California) was a front
runner with Maycock, but unfortunately his car pushed up in turn 4, hit the
wall, and flipped. Thankfully he walked away, but the car needed too many
repairs to be able to return. Awesome racing!
HORNETS:
The husband and wife team of Rob (#3) and Kristi (#33) Chase of Clark dominated
the no-caution race. Rob Chase drove into victory lane and accepted the trophy
while Kristi, hoping to become the 1st female to get a main feature win, rode on
to the pits and accepted 2nd place. Robert Winfrey (#37 Moberly) held the line
and settled for 3rd as a close battle behind him allowed points leader Chad
Hickam (#9H Hallsville) to squeak across the line into 4th just in front of
defending champ Brooke Hassler (#21 Columbia). Good competitve racing!
A-MODS:
In some of the best racing to be seen anywhere at any level, Scotty Roberts (#25
Columbia) drove an awesome race and accepted the victor's trophy and his 1st win
of the season at 24 Raceway. He said it was 'hard work" and thanked Jerry (Milnes,
owner of 24 Raceway) for bumping up the purse. A side-by-side duel was quite a
show between Vance Wilson (#66 Frankford - who stepped in and drove father Gary
Wilson's ride - owned by Lyndell and Frankie Scott, so that Vance would not lose
points) and Dave Holder (#4G Clarence - point leader). Wilson finished in 2nd
just in front of Holder. Coming in 4th and 5th were Kevin Blackburn (#26K
Fulton) and Curt Potter (#11P Boonville - who started 16th and put on a good run
towards the front). Great racing!
MFA OIL/BREAKTIME SPORTSMAN:
Usually a strong competitor and now a champion, Tim Eravi (#3 Moberly) was
excited to grab his first ever win finally in 2007. He said after working on his
engine a few weeks ago, the car has been running better and the handling was
excellent. A great battle for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th was between Steve Dieckmann (#24
Centralia), Larry Krog (#6K Clarence - last week's winner), and Pete Agee (#14
Huntsville) who all put on a good show. Jeff Creed (#01 Cairo) also hung on for
5th. Lots of good action!
MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODS:
For the second week in a row the 'Mean, Green Machine' of Bob Woodrow (#3
Hannibal) captured the win. He said it was a 'good race' and the 'car felt
great' and says he's back for the remainder of the season. He held off point
leader Kelly Smith (#82 Kirksville) and the other close challenger Gary R.
Wilson (#11 Holliday) as they accepted 2nd and 3rd respectively. David Kinder
(#40 Moberly) made some good moves, driving from an 11th place start. He worked
through traffic to land the 4th place, followed by Billy Bentley (#4B Madison)
who had just traded places with Steve Robinson (#10 Huntsville) who both drove a
competitive race. Good racing!
Next week Saturday July 21, joining the five regular classes of A-Modifieds,
Moberly Motors B-Modifieds, the MFA Oil / Breaktime Sportsman class, Hobby
Stocks and 4 cly. Hornets, will be the monthly show of the Classic Dwarfs &
ModLites. Admission will be $10 to the grandstand for adults, with kids, ages 6
to 12, at $5 to see the five regular classes and the Classic Dwarfs. Rates for
the Family Pass are $25, and that includes admission to the grandstands for 2
adults and 3 children, ages 6 to 12. Kids under 6 are always free. The
grandstands will open at 4 p.m. Pit passes are $25. Hot laps are at 6:15
following a short drivers' meeting. "Dirt Track Racing at its Best" will take
place again at 7pm at 24 Raceway, east of Moberly, Missouri on U.S. Highway 24.
