STURGEON'S DOTSON PULLS OUT WIN OVER HOLDER IN A-MOD LATE RACE RESTART WHILE KIRKSVILLE'S SMITH DOMINATES IN B-MOD RACE AND POINTS
Report by Pam Hassler & repeated promo by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO.

MOBERLY, MO (Aug. 6) - The hot, hazy, humid 'dog days' of summer during the day led to a nice breeze at night which comforted the race fans somewhat at the 24 Raceway in Moberly on Saturday, August 4, 2007. But, the race cars were 'hot' as drivers skillfully maneuvered their machines around the high-banked dirt oval. All the races were superb! The night was also exciting for some first time winners in both the Hobby Stocks and the A-Mods.

RACE RESULTS:
HOBBY STOCKS:
Tom Creed (#17 Moberly) took the lead on the first lap and never looked back until he crossed that finish line to accept his 1st victory, ever. He was challenged at one point by Clinton Dale (#7 Moberly) who was a fierce competitor as a front runner but blew his engine toward the end of the race. Tom Elsen (#11 Clarence) tested his skills as he battled and gained 2nd place. On his tail at the end was Kevin Renzelmann ( #41 Huntsville) who had charged up and squeezed through cars successfully from starting in the dead-last position to capture the 3rd spot. Darrell Nickerson (#32 Moberly) maintained a good performance as he earned 4th ahead of Chase Breid (#12B Madison) in 5th. Creed said of his first win that it was " 'bout time!" Creed had a good night, winning his heat too, in prep for this feature. Great show!
NEXT SATURDAY, AUGUST 11 - WATCH AN EXCITNG HOBBY STOCK SPECIAL THAT PAYS $400 TO THE WINNER!

4 CYL. HORNETS:
Seventeen cars began this 12-lap competition. Brooke Hassler (#21 Columbia) simply dominated the field in both the heat and feature for his second win of the season. It was a good weekend for Hassler as he also took 1st at Callaway Raceway on Friday. Claiming 2nd spot was the current points leader Chad Hickam (#9H Hallsville) as he passed the 3rd place finisher Robert Winfrey (#37 Moberly) after a great, clean duel throughout the race. Driving hard was rookie Galen Hassler (#25 Hallsville) who had to land the 5th place when Vince Jasper (#K-2 Clarence) drifted past him on the last lap to gain the 4th place finish. Good racing! Hassler thanked his sponosrs and family for their support.

A-MODIFIEDS:
This 20-lap race provided much excitement when several exchanges of positions kept fans on the edge of their seats. All eighteen cars tried every line imaginable to reach victory lane. Starting mid-pack the ultimate challenger was Matt Dotson (#88D Sturgeon) who ran the bottom line and scored his very first win! David Holder (#7x Clarence) amassed an advantage to hold on to his 2nd place. After sliding past a couple cars on a green, white, checkered restart Steve Payne (#71 Fulton) journeyed into 3rd. Super competitor Vance Wilson (#66 Frankford) sported the 4th spot and was followed by earlier leader Brandon Lennox (#22c New London). Super competition! When asked about running the low line, Dotson said, "It just works" and said B-mod racer Gary Wilson (of Wilson's Hot Rod Shop) helped set up the car.

MFA OIL/BREAKTIME SPORTSMAN:
This was another excellent and enjoyable race with several side-by-side battles and some of the best racing you'll want to see. At the end, Larry Krog (#6K Clarence) just edged out Pete Agee (#14 Huntsville) who had led the entire race. Occasionally 4-wide and often nose-to-tail, all the drivers challenged each other. Crossing the line for 3rd was Ryan Petersheim (#6 Sturgeon) who had a big chase with Chad Walter (#23 Clarence). Walter started at the rear of the field and managed at one point to race for the top spot with Agee. Jeff Creed (#01 Cairo) was also a good competitor who rounded out the top 5. Krog said it was a "good race with a little rubbin" and was "glad no one got wrecked". It was one of those close heavy pressure competitions! Petersheim gets one more crack at a win before leaving for college in NW Ohio after next week.

MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODIFIEDS:
The entire race was a battle between front row contenders Bob Woodrow (#3 Hannibal) and Kelly Smith (#82 Kirksville). Toward the end Smith managed to take the high groove for the lead and the victory over Woodrow. The Kirksville Komet stretched his point lead with this win. Gary R. Wilson (#11 Holliday) followed a little way back for 3rd. Battling in their own pack allowed Kevin Embree (#61 Paris) to take 4th ahead of Tony Garner (#20 Macon), David Kinder (#40 Moberly) and Craig Spegal (#7s New London) who raced a tight fight. Smith said his 'car was real good' and thanked his competitor, Woodrow, and then his sponsors. Good racing!

A-MOD MECHANIC'S RACE:
Four A-Mod drivers cautiously relinquished their machines to their mechanics. Dental Williams drove Kelly Smith's #41 A-Mod into victory lane once again, making two-for-two after winning in Smith's #82 B-Mod last week. Fun race! Think this guy should be driving again in features?
