IN MODIFIEDS, IT'S WILSON AND SMITH AGAIN; YOUNG AGEE GETS
FIRST SPORTSMAN WIN; & ELSEN TAKES BONUS $$ FOR BEING FIRST HOBBY STOCK TO WIN
USING 4 NEW AMERICAN RACER TIRES
Report by Pam Hassler & repeated promo by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway,
Moberly, MO.
MOBERLY, MO (Aug. 20) - Moberly's 24 Raceway experienced one of those
forecasted "scattered" showers around 4 pm Saturday, August 18. It was enough
rain to cause a muddy pit area and track, adding an hour-plus of a delay to the
events. With race cars, drivers, and crews waiting on the outside, several
trucks got to work making the pits manageable for parking. 'The General' Milnes
was also using the tractor and blade for scraping off the clumps of mud. It was
soon ready enough to allow the car haulers to enter. Then it was time for trucks
and race cars to tackle the track and the result was a terrific, smooth, and
moist race surface. Although the start was delayed a little, the wait was worth
it as 78 race cars made adjustments to provide an evening of super entertainment
on the high-banked dirt oval for 'dirt track racing at its best'.
4 CYL. HORNETS:
A field of twenty Hornets took the green flag to race for 12 laps. Last year's
Point Champ Brooke Hassler (#21 Columbia) was hooked-up and dominated the race
through to the checkered flag. A close competition resulted between current
Point Leader Chad Hickam (#9H Hallsville) taking 2nd place and rookie Galen
Hassler (#25 Hallsville) on Hickam's bumper accepting 3rd. With a little space
from the 3-pack leaders a battle for the 4th - 6th poisitions occured and
concluded with Robert Winfrey (#37 Moberly) in 4th, John Brown (#01 Huntsville)
in 5th, and Vince Jasper (#K-2 Clarence) in 6th. G. Hassler (#25- 3rd) joined
his brother B. Hassler in victory lane to give congratulations. B. Hassler
stated that he 'loved the track' and thanked his sponsors, family, and Jeff and
Dwayne Creed (#01 Sportsman) who helped with his engine early in the year. He
also thanked the fans for supporting the track.
HOBBY STOCKS:
Tom Elsen (#11 Clarence) not only enjoyed a tremendous victory by dominating the
field in the caution-free race but also earned another treat. Because he was
racing with 4 American Racer Hobby Stock tires, he will receive bonus money from
the tire company. His car was the track's first Hobby car to win using these
tires, and hence the cash award. Kevin Renzelmann (#41 Huntsville) came in 2nd
after being challenged by Alan Hultz (#51 Madison) who settled for 3rd. Also in
the mix was the last two weeks' winner Tom Creed (#17 Moberly) who this week
landed the 4th place. Lucas Galland (#x7 Moberly) maintained the 5th position.
Elsen dedicated the race win to a friend who was a big help to him and who
passed away a year ago. He also thanked his dad for coming.
MOBERLY MOTORS B-MODIFIEDS:
Although Kevin Embree (#61 Paris) led for a lap, Kelly Smith (#82 Kirksville)
took charge and took off to win yet another B-Mod race to extend his point lead.
Embree still made fast charges but couldn't catch Smith and earned the 2nd
place. Starting from the last spot, Gary Wilson (#11 Holliday) proved his
talents by manuevering into the 3rd place. Wow! Driving hard into 4th was David
Kinder (#40 Moberly) followed by Steve Robinson (#10 Huntsville) in 5th. The
Kirksville "Komet" Smith said he was 'tight in the heat' and made a 'shock
change which helped with the pushing'. He was "glad I got to do it (win)". When
asked about the upcoming A-Mod race, Smith said he had 'too small of motor for
this track'. He then thanked his sponsorships.
MFA OIL / BREAKTIME SPORTSMAN:
There was tremendous competition with lots of action behind the leader Derrick
Agee (#14JR Huntsville) who led the entire race, for a first in his racing
career. At one point, D. Agee was given the consultation flag (black) to be told
by track officials to keep an 'even pace thru the turns and constant speed on
the restarts'. Keeping his position for the restart, the 'soon-to-be' 16 yr.old
went on to earn his first-ever victory! On his tail and taking 2nd was Tim
Dawson (#4T Callao) who competed with Pete Agee (#14 Huntsville) who settled
into 3rd. Right there with the pack and taking 4th was Jeff Creed (#01 Cairo)
and Jerry Ames (#69 Huntsville) nearby in 5th. Excited Derrick Agee stated he
was 'shocked' and said "I don't know what to say" but he thanked his sponsors,
dad and mom. With all the fans and crew in the pits joining in his victory
photo, the cameraman definitely needed a 'wide-angle lens'.
A-MODIFIEDS:
This fast-paced feature started with seventeen challengers and was another race
with one car dominating the field. Vance Wilson (#66 Frankford) extended his
lead and accepted the checkered flag for his 110th win! He was chased by 2nd
place finisher Brandon Lennox (#22c New London) who was being chased by Scotty
Roberts (#25 Columbia) and passed the checkers in 3rd. Fending off other close
competitors was David Holder (#71 Clarence) who raced into 4th. Topping off in
5th was Brian Rieck (#22B Troy). Wilson said he had to 'fight the car in mud' on
the low line. After thanking his sponsors he added a statement about a recent
situation regarding racecar ownership that's different from that of the driver.
And that is that it's 'hard to race for someone'. Understandably, car owners
'spend their money and expect you (driver) to win, but you can't win them all'.
THANKS!!!!
Thank you to D-n-R Motorsports (Randy Mauzey #99M - Madison) for the 2 bicycles
won by Taylor Strain (almost 4) and Nathanial VanBoeing (11).

Surf), C.B.Riley (Sports Bible), 24 Raceway (T-shirts), Pepsi Racing (T-shirts),

free. Rates for that affordable Family Pass are $35 for this coming Saturday
night, and that includes admission to the grandstands for 2 adults and 3
children, ages 6 to 12. Kids under 6 are always free. The grandstands will open
at 4 p.m. Pit Passes will cost you only $25 apiece. Hot laps start at 6:15
following a short drivers' meeting. "Dirt Track Racing at its Best" will take
place again starting at 7pm at 24 Raceway, east of Moberly, Missouri on U.S.
Highway 24. Action photos from 24 Raceway can be seen at
www.24racewayinmoberly.com , if you simply click on the forum and chose the
heading. Plenty of door prizes are given away to both adults and kids alike in
the grandstands each and every Saturday night. In the Jr. Race Fan Club, a lucky
little one gets to take home a shiney new bicycle from different generous
sponsors each week and have their name mentioned in the following week's race
report. But you do have to be at 24 Raceway to sign up in order to claim the
prize!
