HOLDER GETS A-MOD WIN # 2 IN 2 TRYS, WHILE SPORTSMAN SPECIAL ENTERTAINS AT 24 RACEWAY
Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO

MOBERLY, MO (May 17) - While the three classes of A-modifieds, Hobby Stocks and 4 clyinder Hornets all had repeat winners on only the second Saturday night of racing at 24 Raceway this season, the most entertaining event was the hi-lighted one, the 25-lap MFA / Break Time Sportsman Special. Former track champ, Jeff Creed of Cairo started on the inside front row with Columbia's Rick Girard on the outside in his familiar #00. With some 3 and 4-wide racing through the first two turns, Creed came out in front on the backstretch by staying high as Pete Agee's orange #14 Chevy took the low lane into second. Girard made his move into 2nd on lap 6 in an intense battle with Moberly's Randy Rindom and Huntsville's Agee. Creed held off this hard charging threesome for 15 laps, but Girard took over the lead for laps 16 through 19, as Rindom pulled alongside Creed in a fight for second. These latter two raced hard for that second spot and even crossed the line tied that way on lap 18, but Creed fell to third for lap 19. The next lap, # 20, saw Rindom edge out Girard by inches for the lead at the line by going low, as Girard continued to run the high lane. A spin in turn 4 brought out the first caution of the race, setting up a 5-lap shootout between Rindom, Girard, Creed, Agee and Moberly's Clinton Dale. Rindom maintained the lead in his red #48 car over Girard for lap 21 when the racing resumed, but a second yellow flag kept them bunched up. On lap 22, Girard went back up in the high lane again that had been so strong for him, and for these last three laps crossed the line ahead by a bumper each time in some extremely good, close racing. Girard had the finish line in his sites, but a slower car stalled in turn 4 causing a caution flag, and thereby setting up the old green-white-checkers run to the finish. Dale even got his 7-car in for this late race action, getting back to that 3-wide racing through the turns with Creed and Agee. In the end, it looked like Ricky Girard made the correct choice by running almost the entire race up top to take the $400 win in this feature, along with his heat race earlier in the evening. Randy Rindom came in a close second, followed by the pole sitter, Creed and then Agee and Dale. As the phrase goes, this was dirt track racing at its best!

In the open wheel A-modifieds, David Holder of Clarence, got the pole position after two failed starts eliminated a half dozen racecars, and the race was red-flagged from a five-car spin in turn 1. Eleven cars finally got to start this 20 lap feature, with the 22c of Brandon Lennox leading the way for the first 9 laps over Holder. On lap 10, Holder got his #71 car into the lead at the top of the track as they came into traffic and Lennox got trapped by the "rolling roadblock". Lennox ran down low as Holder used that high lane to maintain his lead. Fulton's Gary Blackburn ran in third until that same lapped traffic played into Scotty Roberts' move around him to take third, also on lap 10. Blackburn battled with Columbia's Roberts for the next 5 laps as Holder extended his lead over Lennox. Roberts took over that third position and then moved into a second place finish, with Blackburn coming with him, finishing in third behind the winner, Dave Holder. New London's Lennox faded to fourth towards the end of the race, as no more caution flags were thrown. Last year's track champion, Holder, picked up his second feature win in 2 trys this season at 24 Raceway.

In the other racing for the evening, Rob Chase from the Clark area, led all 12 laps in a caution-free race for the 4 cylinder Hornet division, grabing his second win this season, over Moberly driver, Robert Winfrey, with Wentzville's John Doctorian coming in third and former track champ, Brooke Hassler, fourth. The other Chase family member in the class, wife Kristi, made the best improvement of the evening, coming in 5th after a start from the 14th position.

Another second win of the 2008 season went to Tom Creed in the Hobby Stock class. Creed of Moberly, backed up his win from two weeks ago, in a race that had only a single caution on the white flag lap. Centralia's Clayton Crump had the pole position, but started and finished in second, as Creed led all the laps. A lot of technical inspecting on engines, went on long after this race ended, and had some DQ's take place while checking on compliance with the new engine rules for this season.

In the Moberly Motors B-modifieds, Holliday's Gary Wilson, also led all laps to take his feature' win, along with his heat race. Wilson's #11 car suffered some right side sheet metal damage on lap 7 that created a whistling sound during the race, but didn't seem to slow him down. Wilson held the lead in a tight race with Hallsville's Chad Lebsock running in second, and last time winner, Blake David, in third. But a yellow flag came on lap 9 from Lebsock's meeting with the outside wall as Fulton's David was pulling alongside, and Lebsock got too high and into the loose dirt at the top in turn 3. Wilson was glad to be back in the winner's circle after some time away.

The night finished off with a Hobby Stock mechanic's race that had a different appeal to it. Mike Kinyon of Jacksonville, drove the 31M car to a win, after making a mandatory pit stop to change a tire, done by the regular driver, Marvin Kinyon, in the middle of the 6-lap special race. Watch for this as an attraction to all of the mechanic's races this season, with a tire change to be made by the registered drivers.

Thanks go out to Robbie & Tammy Wailes, the Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Dept., and O'Reilly Auto Parts for furnishing prizes for fan give-aways. Congrats to Kris Plummer of Marshall for picking up $69 in the 50-50 drawing. And a welcome to a German exchange student, Lars Hendrick Gerau, hailing from Oldenburg, Germany and taking in his first dirt track racing experience.
Thanks to Rhonda Acton and Tammy Evans for taking on and organizing of the 24 Raceway Jr. Race Fan Club and its associated drawings for kids door prizes.
