IT'S HOLDER AGAIN WITH WIN # 5 AT 24 RACEWAY
by: Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO

MOBERLY, MO (June 21) - The "Ice Man", Clarence's David Holder, simply dominated the heat racing and then the 20-lap A-modified feature at 24 Raceway, on a great race night once again. Holder got his 5th win for the season in six nights of competition in the 71 car. He moved into the lead, but was followed very closely by other heat winners Vance Wilson and Scotty Roberts running in 2nd and 3rd for the first 3 laps. Roberts then got around Wilson and they stayed that way until lap 9 when the Kirksville Comet, Kelly Smith moved up into 2nd with New London's Brandon Lennox coming along into 3rd. In between the action, on lap 6, Bill Glawson's #4-car had some handling problems and wound up on it's roof coming out of turn 4, causing a red flag in the racing. Glawson walked away once the racecar was righted, but was one frustrated owner/driver. The field tightened up by the delay, began racing again with Holder staying out front the entire way. By lap 17, with Holder making his way into the back of the field, Columbia's Roberts had his #25-car on the move and finally passed Smith at the end to secrure 2nd, leaving Smith with 3rd and Lennox coming in 4th. A great perfomance came from Holder again this week in a pool of 23 other A-modified challengers.

And the "Wild Child" is the name given to Fulton's Blake David, running the #1-car from the pole position in the Moberly Motors B-Modifieds. David moved out front in a dominating show until losing the driveshaft in turn 3 and coming to rest at the inside wall on lap 12. This left Moberly's Brian Robinson with the lead, followed by Gary Wilson and Chad Lebsock, putting on the best racing any fan could ask for, in their constant battle for position during the 15-lap race. As the 4th place car, being driven by Kevin Embree, went up in smoke on the backstretch on lap 14, Wilson made his last lap move around Robinson to win his third feature of the 2008 season. Lebsock, of Hallsville, finished in 3rd, followed by Columbia's Mark Forrester.

In the MFA / Break Time Sportsman class, Clinton Dale, driving a new racecar, led all the laps for his 3rd win of the season and thereby kept the season points lead. The other front row starter, Chad Walter of Clarence, ran the entire 12 laps in 2nd and was followed the whole way by former track champ, Cairo's Jeff Creed in 3rd. After the win by Dale, the happy Moberly driver threw a large stuffed, orange tiger that was along for the ride, quite the ways up into the stands and much to the fans enjoyment.

Tim Dawson and Kevin Renzelmann put on a good show of different racing techniques on these half-mile long high-banks, once the Hobby Stock race got started after the first two attempts. Dawson from Callao, raced the high side of the race track, while Huntsville's Renzelmann used the low side. These two race side by side the entire 12 laps as Dawson led the first lap and Renzelmann got lap 2. From there, Dawson managed to cross the line in just in front of Renzelmann on each successive lap, and won by a fender's length with a great round of applause on this one. This was a brand new racecar when the season began on May 3rd, but on that night and in separate incidents, Dawson got tangled up with another racecar and put his into both the outside and inside wall in turn 2, causing some major damage. Just four laps later on that first night, Renzelmann took a wild ride in the same turn, flipping 3 or 4 times and also doing his car a good amount of damage. As Dawson stated after this win, " We worked so hard on this car - it was a straight car, then bent, and sometimes that's what it takes" to make it a faster racecar.

In the 4 cylinder Hornet class, Rob Chase led all 12 laps for his 3rd win in a row and the 5th of the season for this driver from Clark. Moberly's Robert Winfrey followed in 2nd, also for the 3rd week in a row, as the only other Hornet driver with a win, Columbia's Brooke Hassler, got 3rd.

Thanks go out to Pig in a Polka meat rub, the Mid-Mo Cruisers Car Club, Dea Coffman's pictures with driver's autographs and Drivers: Brooke Hassler, David Holder and Gary Wilson for their donations to the Kid's Race Fan Club. A boy's bike was donated by Hassler Racing (the #21 Hornet) and won by 6 year old Ben Herring of Moberly. George Royce was the lucky out-of-state winner of the 50/50 prize, winning $170 to help out in his travel from Wilberton, Oklahoma.
