IT'S HOLDER AGAIN WITH WIN #6 OUT OF 8 TRIES AT 24 RACEWAY IN A-MODIFIEDS
by: Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO

MOBERLY, MO (July 5) - Another good attendance of 86 raceteams competed this cool Saturday night at 24 Raceway in the five weekly classes. All 25 of the A-modifieds that showed up, started the 20-lap feature race. Dave Holder won his heat, as did Kelly Smith and Kenny Mudd, and got the first three slots. From the drop of the green flag, Smith and Holder ran side by side through the first 2 turns, until a restart negated that. Holder took over for all 20 laps, through the five or six caution flags. A four car crash in turn 2 and on lap 3 was the most severe of these. That one took out Casey Pearson and Virgil Jeffries, while Bob Woodrow and Tony Dunker made enough repairs to resumed racing. Holder led all the laps with Matt Dotson staying in 2nd the from lap 3 on. The jockeying for 3rd was between Kenny Mudd and Vance Wilson early, and then Steve Potter and Tim Dotson late in the race, with Dotson getting his best finish at 24 Raceway by taking 3rd.

Clinton Dale got his 4th win in a row and 5th of the season in the MFA / Break Time Sportsman class. Joni Petersheim led the field into turn 1, but when it came to the line, Moberly's Dale was the leader from lap 1 to lap 12 in a caution-free race. Tim Eravi, also of Moberly, just didn't have enough to take the lead from Dale, and went on to finish 2nd with Pete Agee getting around Petersheim on lap 9 and finishing there in 3rd.

In the B-modified race, Gary R. Wilson from Holliday got win #5 and the last four in a row, as he led all 15 laps with Brian Robinson in close pursuit. It looked as if his streak would come to an end on the final lap, as Moberly's Robinson got by Wilson in the final turns, but a spin on the backstretch brought out a caution flag, setting up a green-white-checkered flag finish. Wilson got his car into the lead to stay on this reprieve, leaving a disappointed Robinson with 2nd. Charlie VanBoening, with his new crate motor in the car just this week, came on to take 3rd by inches over Mark Forrester with a hard charge coming out of turn 4. In this class, Wilson, VanBoening and Blake David are currnently the ones racing in the Moberly Motors B-Mod class with these 9:1 compression crate engines.

In the Hobby class, it just wasn't good to take a lead as first, Tim Dawson was there for two laps and left the track with a flat right rear tire. Then Alan Hultz took over for laps 3 to 6, and left with engine trouble. So on came Kevin Renzelmann to the front in a car that he flipped back on May 3 in the first race of the season. His luck held this time and he went on to the win his first Hobby Stock race of the 2008 season.

And Hornet driver, Rob Chase, seems to be the car to beat each week in that 4 cylinder Hornet class. He led from the start over the brothers, Richard Doctorian's and John Doctorian's cars, and secured his win # 6 for the season out of 8 tries, thereby keeping his season points lead.

Thanks go out to: Jacksonville Fire Dept., Burton Racing (Hornets #'s 20, 76 & Hobby #65), the Mid-Mo Cruisers Car Club and Central Mo Fireworks for providing of the kid's fan club giveaways. Jamie McCallum of Santa Fe, MO won a healthy 50/50 pot of $126.

PROMO: This weekend, July 12 & 13, is now set up for a TWO-DAY event. The 4th Annual Oscar White Memorial "FIRECRACKER FORTY' that was origianlly scheduled for the Thursday before the 4th, is now reset to this coming Saturday July 12 as a special night of racing with two 40 lap features!! Both the A-modifieds AND the LateModels of the MLRA (Midwst LateModel Racing Association) are coming into the area for this big Summer Combo event that has drawn over 1200 racefans to Moberly's 24 Raceway in past years. Last year's collection of 56 A-modifieds and 36 Latemodels took some 10 heats between the two classes to set the line-ups for the consy races and then each of the 40 lap races. Both classes had a 'B' feature, and the A-mods also had a 'C' and 'D' feature that each consisted of extra laps for qualifying for each 'Main' event. Drivers come from Illinois, Iowa, Arkansas, as well as all over Missouri to compete in one or both classes. Both the A-modifieds AND the LateModels of the MLRA are sponosored by L&J Development. They're located in Moberly on North Avenue, doing residential and commercial building in Moberly and the greater Randolph County area. That big fireworks show, sponsored by J&M Displays out of Yarmouth, Iowa is now in store after the events on Saturday night.

And, just so that the other four of the regular classes don't miss a weekend of racing for season points, a special FAN APPRECIATION DAY has been set up for Sunday, July 13 for another day of racing at 24 Raceway. The Moberly Motors B-modifieds, the MFA Oil / Breaktime Sportsman class, the Hobby Stocks and Hornets will be running on Sunday instead of the traditional night, and will be starting 2 hours earlier in the program. A driver's meeting at 4pm, followed by hot laps at 4:15 will be the lead in to the special Sunday racing program beginning at 5pm. All adults tickets are only $5, with high school age kids getting in for FREE when showing a school photo I.D.

Admission for Saturday's special event is $18 to the grandstand for adults, with kids, ages 6 to 12, still only $5 to see the races and the fireworks show to follow. Rates for the Family Pass are $40 for this Saturday, which includes admission to the grandstands for 2 adults and 3 children, ages 6 to 12. Kids under 6 are always free. The grandstands will open at 4 p.m. Hot laps will begin at 6:15 following a short drivers' meeting. "Dirt Track Racing at its Best" will take place twice this weekend at 24 Raceway, east of Moberly, Missouri on U.S. Highway 24. This Saturday's always a good one with only the two classes competing for a full night of very exciting racing! And more on Sunday with Fan Appreciation Day!
