HOLDER GET WIN #9 FOR THE SEASON AT 24 RACEWAY IN A-MODS, AS DALE WINS HIS 6TH CONSECUTIVE SPORTSMAN RACE.
Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO

MOBERLY MO, (July 26) - Even with all this past week's rains and road closures in the northern Missouri area, 24 Raceway got the racing program in with an awful lot of work on Friday night through race time on Saturday. A very special "thanks" go out to those involved and those providing the equipment. The track was in great shape and, like last few weeks, had a smooth surface for the entire 80' width to allow plenty of side by side excitement.

Dave Holder and Brandon Lennox were the front runners in the A-Modified race, both having won their heats, and put on a clinic on how to extend a lead. Kenny Mudd and Matt Dotson put on their own show for 3rd, as only the two cautions would tighten the field of 11 cars. And that's the way they finished, Holder, Lennox, Mudd & Dotson, with Holder leading all 20 laps for victory #9 on the 2008 season. In his heat, the only lap led by Holder was the one that counted to put him on the pole - the final one, as he took the heat race right at the finish line.

Moberly's Clinton Dale now has 6 wins in a row for the MFA / Breaktime Sportsman class, and with several restarts at the beginning, he was the recipient of lady luck for coming to the front to lead lap 1 all the way to the end. Jeff Creed made his way through the pack of 14 Sportsman cars, to get into 4th on lap 10, then 2nd place for the final two laps, but could not overcome Dale. Sometimes 4-wide racing, this event provided a great race to watch, with Chad Walter getting 3rd over Rick Girard and then Casey Walter for 5th.

In more 4-wide racing early on the backstretch, the Moberly Motors B-modified race saw Blake David move to the lead after a lengthy set of yellows delayed the start, coming mostly from Billy Bentley's lost driveshaft and fluid leak on the south part of the track. David led all 15 laps for this one, coming across the line side by side on lap 10 with Gary Wilson. But after that, David stretched out the lead, with Wilson in 2nd in another 10-car length distance over Gary Lewis. Then Charlie VanBoening finished about the same distance behind Lewis for 4th. David, known as the "Wild Child", picked up his win #3 for 2008.

The Hobby Stock class saw front row starter, Kevin Renzelmann break for the lead out of a tight pack of 15 cars, and lead all 12 laps to get his 3rd win in as many starts. Tom Creed moved from 4th to 2nd through this race, and finished there, ahead of Darrell Nickerson. Clayton Crump got around pole sitter, Tim Dawson, late in the race to come in at 4th.

Hornet driver, Adam Melloway, won his heat and led the first 9 laps from the pole position until a spin in turn 2, after a restart following a caution, took him out of contention. Brooke Hassler then took over the lead after running a strong 2nd ahead of Rob Chase. Chase could eek out a lead on the backstretch during the final 3 laps, but Hassler got to the line in a photo finish over Chase, with Devin Still coming in a close 3rd. These 3 ran as a pack ahead of a dozen other cars for the final laps in an exciting 4 cylinder Hornet race.

In the B-Modified mechanic's race following the night's racing program, Kirksville's Jeff O'Haver beat Moberly local Jeffrey Kinder to the finish, after the mandatory mid-race stop for a tire change by regular drivers Kelly O'Haver and David Kinder. The # 92M car, being attended by regular driver James Maxey, provided for an interesting last lap when it climbed the outside wall near the pit entrance gate. No injuries - not even too much to the car, but an interesting end to the 6-lap race.

Thanks to the night's sponsors for providing to the 24 Raceway Jr. Race Fan Club, and for the Adults' giveaways too, including : the Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Dept. and Checkered Flag Daycare of Moberly. Lonnie Roberts of Clarence had the winning 50/50 ticket worth a $91 pot.
