Brown wins W.O.W. finale at 24 Raceway & Holder continues winning ways in A-mod
by: Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway, Moberly, MO

MOBERLY, MO (Sept 20) - Moving from his third starting position, Brian Brown of Grain Valley led every lap to take the season finale for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw Warriors at 24 Raceway Saturday night. The win was the first for Brown as a car owner in his Super Clean/Ditzfeld Transfer Maxim and his third series win on the year. Following him the entire distance was Jonathan Cornell in the Kiowa Builders/M&N General Consultants Maxim.

The race got off to a rocky start as on the original start, Pete Crall spun out. The second attempt at green was called back and on the third try Crall got together with Kyle Bellm with both being able to restart. The fourth try proved successful with Brown moving out front. The race would stay green until lap six when Ryan Marsch, Tony Crank, and Bellm got together to bring out the yellow. All three would continue. The final yellow came out on lap sixteen as Crall came to a stop on the frontstretch ending his night. Rusty Potter stopped during the yellow ending his night as well.

Finishing behind Brown and Cornell were Josh Fisher in the Rusty Fisher/ASAP Properties Maxim followed by Dennis Moore Jr. in the G&D Auto Electric Maxim. Rounding out the top five was Curtis Evans in the Arctic Cat/Creason Pipeline Services Maxim. Charging through the field was B Feature winner Don Droud Jr. in the Jeff and Jerry Smith Eagle as he passed ten cars to finish sixth. Mike Trent ran seventh with Randy Martin, Mark Shirshekan, and Jon Corbin rounding out the top ten.

With his eighth place finish, Martin captured his fourth straight WOW championship in the Diamond Pet Foods J&J. above is from Story by Chad Buford - reprinted with permission

Best car count of the season and no rain this Saturday night at 24 Raceway provided for a great show for the Fall 360 Classic! The season's track champions received their respective trophy or plaque awards at intermission, prior to the feature racing, and the five Track Champs had their photo taken on the track in front of the grandstands. David Holder, A-mod champ; Gary Wilson, B-mods; Clinton Dale in the Sportsman class; Tom Creed, Hobby Stocks; and Rob Chase from the Hornet class all posed for the track champion's group photo after the individual classes got their awards handed out for the top ten in each class this 2008 season.

A-modified champ David Holder led all the laps for yet another win, with Curt Potter running in 2nd for the first half of this race, but giving up that position to Hank Delonjay and Kelly Smith in the second 10 laps. Delonjay and Smith were mixing it up in the later laps, but Delonjay came out with the 2nd place in his first return to racing this year. Smith finished 3rd, Potter came in 4th with brother Steve Potter next in 5th. Season champ for the Moberly Motors B-mods, Gary Wilson, also led all the laps to get his 7th win this season, his first since two months back on July 19.

In the Sportsman class, it was a son & father front row start for the Agee family. Son Derrick took over the lead with dad Pete in 2nd, and held it for 5 laps, but Iowa's Shane Weller proved to have the car to beat as he moved out by double diget car lengths over both Agees. Derrick Agee took 2nd with Joni Petersheim finishing in 3rd. The Hobby Stocks finished in a time shortened event after five cautions, with plenty of 3-wide racing in this one. Kevin Renzelmann led the first 3 laps, but it was Alan Hultz leading from lap 4 on to the end of the race for the win.

The 4 cylinder Hornet race saw 2008 Track champ, Rob Chase, lead all the laps in this one too for his win. Brooke Hassler provided the most exciting incident of the night with a flip in front of the stands on the first lap. Hassler tangled with Robert Winfrey just behind Chase and got the worst of the deal, but was ok upon emerging from the car. Winfrey went on to finish in 2nd after the red flag from clean-up and a complete race restart.

Thanks go out once more to all the sponsors for providing of the kid's fan club giveaways. Thanks again to Rhonda Acton for organizing of the 24 Raceway Jr. Race Fan Club. Kristina Ancell won the 50/50 pot of $136.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Sept 27 - Bob Hubert Memorial B-modified Championship Shootout sponsored by MHC Kenworth of Columbia (along with the other 4 classes from the weekly racing program). Special 30 lap format
Oct 4 - Mud Drags, west side of the grandstands

PROMO: This coming week September 27th at 24 Raceway, MHC Kenworth of Columbia will be sponsoring the 6th annual Moberly Motors B-modified Championship Shootout with it's custom format of 30 laps in two segments. At least one new 2009 Kenworth T 660 over-the-road tractor will be back on the grounds for some up-close viewing. The sales staff at MHC Kenworth will also be around early enough to answer any questions prospective buyers might pose. Look for the tent in the parking lot area at the track's entrance to the grandstands. Numbered rain checks from the September 6th race will be honored for this night.

The first segment of the race will be a 20-lap event with the top ten qualifying to move on. A ten minute pit stop for fuel and adjustments to that group of drivers placing one through ten will preceed a redraw for their starting positions. The second segment of the B-modified race will see those ten qualifying drivers then going full tilt for another ten laps. It's 10 laps, 10 B-mod racecars & $1000 to the winner! Join in watching these B-mods light up the track this coming Saturday night! This will be the final night of circle track racing on the half mile dirt track for the season and it's ending with a good one.

Admission for Saturday, September 27th is $15 to the grandstand for adults, with kids, ages 6 to 12, still only $5 to see the 6th annual Bob Hubert Memorial B-Modified Championship Shootout and the other four classes of A-mods, MFA Oil / Break Time Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and 4 cyl. Hornets race, with 30 laps for the B-modifieds in their special format. Rates for the popular Family Pass will be $35, which includes admission to the grandstands for 2 adults and 3 children, ages 6 to 12. Kids under 6 are always free. The grandstands and pits will open at 4 p.m. A pit pass is $25. Hot laps begin at 6:15 following a short drivers' meeting. Plenty of door prizes are given away to both adults and kids alike in the grandstands each and every Saturday night. "Dirt Track Racing at its Best" will take place again, September 27th at 7pm at 24 Raceway, east of Moberly, Missouri on U.S. Highway 24.
