MATHER RETURNS TO 24 RACEWAY AND COMES OUT A WINNER IN THE A-MODFIEDS, BOTTS IN THE B's AND AGEE IN SPORTSMAN'S CLASSES
by Ron Lueck

24 Raceway, Moberly, MO:  An increase to 79 raceteams showed up for this really cold night of racing at 24 Raceway after a two week layout due to the rains.  And a special "thanks" goes out to the Casey's General Store folks on hand with their give-outs at the front gate, along with their trophy presentations to the feature winners.

RACE REPORT:  Vance Wilson started along side Kenny Mudd on the front row for the A-modified race, but by lap 2 of 20, Colt Mather had moved to the front and never relinquished the lead.  Wilson, Kevin Blackburn and Matt Dotson all were hot in pursuit, but couldn't catch the hard-charging Mather.  For the 2nd half of the race, Wilson stayed in 2nd as Steve Grotz moved ahead of Blackburn, and that was the finishing order behind Mather:  Wilson, Grotz, Dotson, and then Brian Rieck finished out the top five.

In the B-mods, 20 cars started this 15-lap feature, with Kiel Erwin showing the way around the half-mile for the first 12 laps.  And then it was Mark Botts leading the last 3, and taking his first feature win in his third season of competition at Moberly.  Erwin came in 2nd, followed by Gary R. Wilson, Chad Lebsock and the most recent B-mod winner at 24 Raceway, Kevin Embree.

The Sportsman feature started out as a 3-wide race with Rick Girard, Butch Bailey and Derrick Agee all vying for the first lap lead.  Girard won that first lap over Bailey, and held the lead for 7 laps until Agee moved in front and held it to the end.  The top 4 finishers of Agee, Girard, Bailey and Chad Walter ran off as a group in some good close racing action.  Cody Agee came in 5th, but after Bailey's DQ in the tech part following the race, got to move up a notch to 4th, with Walter going to 3rd.  Jeff Creed then moved to 5th.

Clayton Crump acheived his 3rd victory of the season by leading all the laps in the Hobby Stock class, with a great early challenge from Jerry Warren.  After a few cautions and with half the race over, Bobby Anders grabbed 2nd and stayed there to the finish.  Crump's Hobby Stock ran a strong 12-lap race, as Warren, Justin Bevill and Jamie Bevill rounded out the top five.

The Hornet class had the most action-packed wreck of the night, as Rob Chase started his 12-lap race with the lead for the first three laps over Robert Winfrey and Richard Doctorian in close racing in the early part.  Winfrey moved ahead of Chase on the 4th lap and Doctorian came along with him.  But after completing 9 laps, Chase and Josh Kendrick tangled in turn 2 and both cars went over, winding up on their sides.  The race then stopped with a red flag, and both drivers emerged unhurt, albeit out of the race.  And on an attempt at a restart, the young guns of Michael Chase and Tanner Burton both tangled on the back stretch and took each other out of the race.  With a green-green-white-checker, Winfrey led Deven Still and Andrew Hurley across the finish line for his second 2010 season win.  Doctorian and Kriste Chase came in 4th and 5th.
