34 Raceway Toland, Fenton get first wins of 2006 at 34 Raceway

BURLINGTON, IA (July 8, 2006) - Racing action continues at 34 Raceway during its 40th celebration year with two drivers getting their first wins this season at the 3/8 mile. Burlington¹s Doug Fenton took the checkered flag for the first time in the hobby stock class while Rob Toland raced to a IMCA Late Model win. Repeat wins came from Bill Roberts (IMCA modifieds), Jerry Bliesener, Jr., ) B-Mods and John Oliver, Jr. (IMCA Stock Cars).

Sixteen cars took to the track for the IMCA Stock Car feature with Derek Coleman, New London, and Travis Plummer, Burlington on the front row. Coleman took he early lead followed by Kirk Kinsley, Wapello. Kinsley took advantage of a caution on lap five and took over the number one spot. Moving into the second spot by lap seven was John Oliver, Jr. Oliver and Rod Staats, battled for the second position. With three laps to go Staats hit the rear of the leader spinning Kinsley bringing out the caution. This put Oliver in the lead and he went on to take the checkered flag. ³I didn¹t win this² said Oliver, referring to the incident involving Kinsley and Staats, ³Kirk won that². Finishing in second was Shawn Whiting and third went to Boe McLaughlin.

The IMCA Modifieds took to the track next for their feature event with Elmer Arnold and Brad Carson on the front row. Sean Wyett jumped to the first lap lead holding on till lap four. Following two restarts, Darin Thye was finally able to take the lead but not for long as Bill Roberts would be right behind. Roberts took the lead staying to the inside of the track while Thye went high. Roberts went on to take the checkered flag, his second this year. Jerry Bliesener, Jr., won his second B-Modified feature this year. Bliesener took the lead from Chad Sovern who was coming off of two back to back wins on lap eight of the twelve lap feature. Bliesener went on to take the checkered flag for the win.

Twenty four cars set the field for the hobby stock feature with Sky Griffith taking the early lead. Doug Fenton moved past Griffith on lap two and went on tot take the checkered flag for his first win this year. Rob Toland took the lead from Johnny Johnson on lap four of the twenty five lap eighteen car IMCA Late Model final feature of the evening. Toland would gain a large lead over the field as he took the checkered flag for the first time this year. Toland was followed across the finish line by Jeff Laue and Gary Russell to round out the top three.

Coming Up Coming up Saturday, July 15 at 34 Raceway will be Hy-Vee Food Stores night as well as Vista Baker and Federal Mogul/Champion Employee Night Bring the family as kids 10 and under are admitted free.
