Rogerson gets Sprint Invaders win at34 Raceway Dana Royer/34 Raceway BURLINGTON, IA The 2008 racing season at 34 Raceway officially got underway on Saturday, April 19 with the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders. Matt Rogerson, West Burlington, won his fifth career Sprint Invaders feature while Brad Carson took the win in the IMCA Modified feature and Todd Holsteen topped the IMCA Stock Cars feature. Over thirty sprints competed in four heats and a B feature to set the field for the twenty car main event . Korey Weyant of Springfield, Il. and Matt Rogerson held the front row positions for the start of the twenty five lap race. Following a flip by Nick Guernsey on the first lap and then a lost tire on the next try by Ryan Jamison, the race finally got underway on the third try with Rogerson taking the early lead. Rogerson was followed closely by John Schulz who on lap sixteen was able to pass Rogerson for the lead courtesy of the lap traffic. Rogerson then took his turn using lap traffic to get his lead back from Schulz and went on to hold off his fellow West Burlington racer for his fifth sprint Invaders win at 34. Schulz finished second and Korey Weyant took third. Bobby Mincer, Burlington, took the checkered flag in the Rich De Reu Memorial Shake-Up Dash. Brad Carson, Colchester, Illinois, won his first ever IMCA Modified feature in 34 Racewayšs season opener. Carson took the lead from his front row start of the twenty lap, twenty two car field and never looked back he pulled away from the field. Dennis LaVeine and Rich Smith battled for the second spot throughout the race but sneaking up through the field from his ninth row start was Bill Roberts. Roberts got by Smith with two laps to go to finish second and Darin Thye moved up to finish third. Burlingtonšs Todd Holsteen, the 2007 34 Raceway Stock Car track champion, took the checkered flag in the twenty five car, fifteen lap IMCA Stock Car feature. Holsteen got by Cole Simmons, Morning Sun, for second on lap six and then set his sights on Johnson. Two laps later, on lap eight, Holsteen went to the low side and got around Johnson for the lead. Holding off a charge by Kirk Kinsley, Wapello, Holsteen went on to take the checkered flag for his first win this year. Both the IMCA Modified and IMCA Stock Car races were sanctioned IMCA point races. No points were given for 34 Raceway track points. Coming Up Coming Up this week at 34 Raceway will be double the action. Saturday, April 26 34 Raceway will begin its 2008 point season for the e J&J Steel, Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models, Sebastian Sandblasting 305 Sprint Cars, Miller Lite IMCA Modifieds, Mikešs Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars & Pepsi Hobby Stocks. Then on Tuesday, April 29, the J & J Steel/ Ideal Ready Mix Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late models will take to the track in the rescheduled from April 12 event. Also competing will be Hobby Stocks and the 4 Cylinders in the first of five Dash for Cash events.
