Track Schedules

Following another bout of rain Thursday and Friday crews worked hard to prepare the track and pit area for the night¹s racing event. Fans braved the cold weather to see 5 features, 15 heat races and 5 B-mains. Getting wins for the night were, Jason Frankel (late models), Quincy, Il., Dennis LaVeine (modifieds), Burlington, Brian Hetrick (sprints), Stronghurst, Il., Darin Thye (stock cars), Burlington and Dan Wenig (hobby stocks), West Burlington.

Coming up next Saturday, May 3 will be KILJ Radio Night with points races in all five classes. Mark your calendars for Friday, May 9 when the IRA 410 Outlaw Sprints will take to the 3/8 mile high bank. Also running will be Mod Lites and Il. 3/4 Midgets.

A total of 35 IMCA Late Models checked in to compete for a position in the 24 car feature event. Sitting on the front row were Gary Russell and Jay Johnson. Russell took the early lead holding off Tom Darbyshire for the first four laps. Darbyshire took over the lead when Russell went over the turn one turn on lap five. Darbyshire would then lead the field for the next six laps. It took Jason Frankel, who had moved up to the second spot, several tries to get past Darbyshire before finally getting the job done on lap twelve of the 25 lap feature. Frankel went on to take the checkered flag followed by Darbyshire and Matt Ryan on Darbyshire¹s tail.

Burlington¹s Dennis LaVeine made a last lap pass to win his first IMCA Modified feature this year. Bill Parks took the early lead but when Bill Roberts tried to pass, Parks bumped Roberts sending him spinning while Roberts continued on, now in the lead. After five cautions the race was called on a time limit with a green, white, checkered finish following the fifth caution. That was when Dennis LaVeine made his final move passing Roberts on the back stretch on the final lap and going on to take the checkered flag for the win. Roberts finished second and Rich Smith took third.

Fifteen 305 sprints took to the track for their first points race of the year with Donnie Steward and Rob Kubli on the front row. Kubli took the lead from Steward on lap two of the twenty lap race while Brian Hetrick was trying to close in. Hetrick, got by Kubli for the lead on lap seven and went on to take the checkered flag by several car lengths over Tasker Phillips and Kubli.

The IMCA Stock Cars put on a show for the crowd with Darin Thye taking the win. Thye took the lead from the drop of the green working to hold off Chris Wibbell and Todd Holsteen throughout the fifteen lap feature. Joining the leaders in bumper to bumper action were John Oliver, Jr., Sean Johnson and Kirk Kinsley. Wibbell tried to take the lead from Thye but couldn¹t hold on and Thye went on to take the checkered with Wibbell on his bumper followed by Holsteen right behind.

The Pepsi Hobby Stocks went flag to flag in their fifteen lap feature with West Burlington¹s Dan Wenig taking the win. Wenig took the early lead followed closely by Luke McLaughlin. On lap 10, McLaughlin was able to get past Wenig for the lead but couldn¹t pull away. With one lap to go, Wenig made his final move and got around McLaughlin and took the checkered flag in another exciting finish for the evening. Finishing second was McLaughlin and third went to Dean Kratzer.
