Saturday night racing sees four new winners at 34 Raceway

Midway through the 2008 racing season fans saw four drivers getting their
first wins of the year at Burlingtonıs 34 Raceway on Fleck Sales, Miller
Lite Night. After three inches of rain fell on the track this week crews
were able to get it dried out in time for the nights action. With a good
crowd on hand there was plenty of racing to be seen with fourteen heat
races, 2 B- Features and 5 features in the five classes of racing. Getting
wins this week were Matt Bailey (late models), Quincy, Il.; Dennis LaVeine (modifieds),
Burlington; Bobby Mincer (sprints), Burlington; Abe Huls, (stock cars),
Carthage, Il.; and Dean Kratzer (hobby stocks), Fort Madison.

Party at 34 Raceway on Whiteyıs Bar and Billiards Night. Racers are reminded
that this weekıs races (July 5) will be a draw/redraw show with track points
and IMCA points awarded.
Quincyıs Matt Bailey won his first IMCA Late Model
feature winning the 25 lap main event. Bailey took the lead midway through
the 25 lap feature and worked to hold off a hard charging Tom Goble and Tom
Bowling. Goble, who was involved in an incident earlier in the race when
Gene Pratt slid in front was forced to pit. Able to return to the action,
Goble moved up from the rear of the field to the second spot by the end of
the race. Goble was followed closely by Tom Bowling, who was also giving
chase to Bailey as the three pulled away from the field. But Bailey would
hold on to take the checkered flag for his first win.
Dennis LaVeine was glad the race ended when it did
last Saturday as the Burlington driver picked up his second win this year.
LaVeine was losing fuel pressure and wasnıt sure he would be able to hang on
to his lead.
LaVeine took the lead from Brandon Savage on lap
sixteen then a late race restart could have been disastrous. With his
engine losing fuel pressure and cutting out right before the yellow he
wasnıt sure he could hang on. But LaVeine would be able hold on as Savage
and Kevin Cale battled it out for second.
Bobby Mincer, Burlington picked up his first
Sebastian Sandblasting 305 Sprint feature win this year . Starting in the
fourth position, Mincer took the early lead and led the 15 lap race from
start to finish. Jayson Ditsworth would give chase early on but would be
unable to catch Mincer.
Brian Hetrick would get by Ditsworth for the second
position but would be unable to catch Mincer as he took the win.
Abe Huls, Carthage, Il., got his first Mikeıs Auto
Parts IMCA Stock Car feature win topping the twenty six car field.
Starting in the 9th position Huls got by Bert McDaniel and Kirk Kinsley with
two laps to go and went on to take the checkered flag for the first time
this year. McDaniel finished second followed by Kinsley, Randy Phillips and
Patrick Mincer rounding out the top five.
After dominating the hobby stock class at an area
track, Fort Madisonıs Dean Kratzer was finally able to get his first win at
34 Raceway last Saturday.
Thirty two cars competed in four heats an a
B-feature for a spot in the twenty four car feature. Kratzer started in the
13th position with John Oliver leading the first six laps of the 15 lap
feature. Midway through, Kratzer took to the inside of Oliver in turn four
for the lead and never looked back. Oliver finished second followed by Doug
Fenton, Matt Gavin and Jim Lynch.
