Darbyshire, Schroyer, Wilsey enjoy first feature wins on
Christmas in July night at 34 Raceway

BURLINGTON, IA (July 19) It was Christmas in July at 34 Raceway on
Saturday, July 19 with three of the five classes seeing first time winners
for the 2008 season. The night also included a colorful Christmas Light
Display and the giveaway of 25 bikes to 25 lucky junior fan club winners all
courtesy of Sebastian Sandblasting and Powdercoating. Santa was also present
and handed out free gifts to the kids. Once again fans were treated to some
of the best racing in southeast Iowa with Tom Darbyshire, Morning Sun (late
models), Jeff Schroyer, Boone (modifieds), and Rob Wilsey, Keokuk (hobby
stocks) all getting their first wins at 34 this season. Getting repeat wins
were Bobby Mincer, Burlington (sprints) and Jim Redmann, Lockridge (stock
cars).
34 Raceway will be busy in the next couple weeks beginning Saturday, July 26
with Titan Broadcasting Night. Itšs 103.7 The Mix & 101.7 The Bull night at
the track. Listen to these two favorite radio stations to win free tickets
to enjoy all five classes of racing including the J&J Steel/Ideal Ready Mix
IMCA Late Models, Sebastian Sandblasting 305 Sprint Cars, Miller Lite IMCA
Modifieds, Mikešs Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars & Pepsi Hobby Stocks. Pit Gates
open 4:30, Grandstands 5:00, Racing at 7:00.
Then come back Sunday, July 27 for Randallšs Performance, Des Moines County
Farm Bureau, Des Moines County Fair Truck and Tractor Pull. Pit gates open
at 10:00, Grandstands at 11:00, Pulling begins at 1:00pm.
Wednesday, July 30 The biggest event at 34 Raceway ever when the World of
Outlaws Sprint Cars will make their first ever appearance at the 3/8 mile
high bank. Tickets are going fast for this event as it makes its first stop
ever in extreme southeast Iowa. Seating is limited so donšt wait to feel the
ground shaking, full throttle racing at its best.
The Miller Lite IMCA Modifieds took to the track for the first feature of
the evening with Adam Swanson and Jeremy Harris on the front row of the
twenty two car feature. Harris took the early lead only to give it up to
Mike Weikert, Jr., by lap three. Weikert lead the field for the next twelve
laps before he suddenly slowed coming out of turn four and came to a halt in
turns one and two to bring out the yellow flag. With Weikert out of the race
the lead went to Jeff Schroyer racing for the first time at 34 Raceway.
Schroyer went on to win the 20 lap feature in a green white checkered finish
holding off Jeff Waterman and Dennis LaVeine.
The J & J Steel/Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models took to the track next with
Jay Chenoweth and Colby Springsteen on the front row. Springsteen looked
strong taking the early lead before Tom Darbyshire moved past for lead
number 2 on lap 11. Darbyshire began to pull away from the field while a
battle for second raged behind him between Springsteen, Tom Bowling, Jr, and
Matt Strassheim. Bowling got past Springsteen with two laps to go to
finishing second. Springsteen took third and Strassheim finished fourth.
Derek Coleman took the lead from John Brockway on lap three of the 23 car,
fifteen lap Mikešs Auto Parts IMCA Stock feature but his lead would be
shortlived as Jim Redmann took over the number one spot one lap later.
Redmann led the field for the next seven laps holding off a charge by John
Oliver Jr., late in the race. Oliver got by Coleman with two laps to go and
challenged Redmann on the back stretch as they raced side by side. But
Redmann would hold on to take the checkered flag by a car length over Oliver
for his 2nd win this year. Jake Wenig moved up to finished third followed by
Coleman and Brockway rounding out the top five. An engine claim was made
immediately following the race by Jeff Mueller, Redmann accepted the claim
and kept his win.
Burlingtonšs Bobby Mincer got his second win this year at 34 Raceway in the
Sebastian Sandblasting 305 Sprint division. Mincer took the lead from Donnie
Steward on lap 8 and never looked back. Steward finished second followed by
Nick Easton, Brian Hetrick and Jayson Ditsworth in the fifteen lap feature.
Brian Hetrick continues to lead the point race with 451 points over Donnie
Steward with 418.
Twenty five cars started the Pepsi Hobby Stock feature for the final race of
the night with Jarod Conrad and Rob Wilsey on the front row. Wilsey took the
early lead holding off Dean Kratzer throughout the fifteen lap race. Midway
through, Luke McLaughlin would join the leaders as did last weekšs winner
Doug Fenton in a close race. It was bumper to bumper, side by side racing
for the top four in the final four laps with Wilsey holding off Kratzer for
the win. Matt Gavin continues to hold a strong lead in the point battles
with 401 points over Tanner Thomann with 373.
