Slocum 50 will start the 2011 racing season at  34 Raceway

BURLINGTON, IA  (April 4, 2011) - Ground shaking, heart pounding action will return to Southeast Iowa Saturday, April 9 when 34 Raceway kicks off its 45th season with the Budweiser Slocum 50 Memorial Race. The tribute to late model racer, Brent Slocum, will be the second stop for the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series for Late Models which consistently draws a large number of cars for the $3000 to win, $500 to start  50 lap feature. Also running on the season opener at 34 Raceway will be the W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprints and I-Wireless/Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders competing for track points. 

The Slocum 50 is the first of several special events throughout the year that will include two  nights of  410 Outlaw Sprints, Lucas Oil Late Models, UMP Summer Nationals “Hell Tour”, three nights of Sprint Invaders 360 action and not one, but two concerts following the racing action. The annual Truck and Tractor Pull will return as well as the Vintage Car Reunion. A special tribute night has been set for Saturday, May 21 for former track owner and racer Johnny Johnson, who passed away this past February. 

The Pepsi USA Late Model Nationals has been moved up a week to September 2 and 3 to allow for a rain date if needed. The Friday night show will also pay tribute to sprinter Brian Hetrick with the Brian Hetrick Memorial race for sprints. 

A total of eight classes of racing will take to the track this season changing the  action  from week to week. The J & J Steel IMCA Late Models, Miller Lite IMCA Modifieds, Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars and W.T. Gabeline and Son Trucking 305 Sprints  will be back in the tracks 45th season. Fans will also see four classes of cars running on a limited schedule including the return of the Holmes Concrete Mod Lites (6), I-Wireless/Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders (8), Burlington Pepsi Hobby Stocks (12) and new this year, the Weikert Iron and Metal IMCA Sport Mods (9). 

New to 34 Raceway this year will be the T.A. Auto and Tire and I- Wireless Li’l Racers Car Club. Kids, ages 10 and under are urged to sign up for prizes, games and activities.
