34, Quincy dates are next for Deery Series

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (April 5) – The Deery Brothers Summer Series sees action on both sides of the Mississippi River this weekend, with dates at 34 Raceway in West Burlington and at Quincy, Ill., Raceway.

34 hosts its season-opening, $3,000 to win Slocum 50 tour event for IMCA Late Models on Satur­day, April 9. The 25th annual series is at Quincy for a $2,000 to win feature on Sun­day, April 10.

Three-time series champion Mark Burgtorf won April Deery events at both 34 and Quincy last season. He’ll be challenged this time around by the likes of Jeff Aikey, who leads all drivers with six career Deery titles and 54 victories, defending champion Ray Guss Jr. and Darrel DeFrance, who has competed at all 368 events in tour history.

Pit gates at 34 open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing follows the 7 p.m. salute to the military.

Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and students, and free for kids 10 and under. One dollar from each adult ticket sold will be donated to the Brent Slocum Memorial Scholar­ship Fund, established in honor of the late local IMCA driver.

Night two of the weekend twinbill has pit gates at Quincy opening at 3:30 p.m. and the grand­stand opening at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 5:45 p.m. and racing starts at 6:30 p.m.

Admission to the grandstand is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors, $10 for students ages 11 through 16, and free for 10 and under.

Brian Harris topped the 2011 series opener April 2 at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway. Three more tour dates are scheduled before the start of the regular point season for IMCA Late Models, on April 15 at Davenport Speedway, April 16 at Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa and April 17 at Quad City Speedway in East Moline, Ill.
