By Dana Royer/34 Raceway

BURLINGTON, IA  (May 9, 2011) - The weather was perfect for a night of racing at 34 Raceway with five racers getting their first wins for the season at the 3/8 mile. Feature winners Saturday, May 7 included Chad Huston, Jamesport, Mo. (305 sprints), Keith Pratt, Mendon, Il. (late models), Scott Hogan, Vinton (modifieds), Chris Webb, Biggsville, Il., (stock cars) and Dean Kratzer, Fort Madison (hobby stocks.

Dean McGee looked to be on his way to a Miller Lite IMCA Modified feature win. McGee took the lead from his front row start  and led the eighteen car field around the 3/8 mile circuit  for nineteen of the twenty laps. A caution with two laps to go would allow Scott Hogan, who had moved into second,  to close in on McGee . Hogan took advantage of the late race restart to chase down McGee passing him in turn four on the final lap for the win. McGee running a great race finished second and Rich Smith followed in third.

Chad Huston picked up his first W.T.Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprint feature win topping the nineteen car field. Alan Ambers took the first lead of the twenty lap race leading the first three laps. The next leader of the race would be Brandyn Martin who led the race for the next nine laps before Huston would make a pass for the lead on lap thirteen. Huston led the remaining seven laps with Justin Parrish  moving into second on lap seventeen when Martin got too high in turn two. Huston went on to take the checkered flag by several car lengths for the win followed by Parrish, Martin and Jayson Ditsworth who moved up from the rear of the field to finish fourth.

Keith Pratt, Mendon, Il, led from start to finish in the nineteen car J & J Steel/Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Model twenty five lap feature race. Pratt developed a comfortable lead early on but by lap eighteen Justin Reed was closing the gap using the inside of the track. Reed would pull along side Pratt with three laps to go but couldnt get past him as Pratt took the checkered flag by a single car length. Reed followed in second and Rob Toland would finish third.

Eighteen Mikes Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars took to the track with Chris Webb cross the finish line first in the twenty lap feature. Webb took the lead from his front row start and never looked back in the non stop flag to flag feature. Shane  Watts would follow holding off Jim Redmann for second.

Fans were on the edge of their seats for the Pepsi Hobby Stock feature when Dean Kratzer took the checkered flag only inches ahead of Ray Raker. Kratzer took the lead on the first lap battling Dane Fenton early on. Fenton would get by Kratzer on lap five but couldnt hold on as Kratzer took the lead back one lap later. With Kratzer holding his lead, Raker had moved into the second spot with five laps to go.  Two car lengths separated the two  with one lap to go and on the final lap, Raker pulled along side Kratzer coming out of turn four and the two raced past the fans side by side. Kratzer edged out the win in an exciting finish.
