Zeitner, Mueller, Hardisty and Bergren top ACS main events
CORNING, IA. (May 19) - A beautiful night of weather greeted a great night of
racing for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at the Adams County Speedway
Saturday night. With track conditions allowing lots of grooves of racing, the
action was intense and four winners were crowned by 10:30. Taking the wins were
Corey Zeitner, Dan Mueller, Tony Hardisty and Brad Bergren.
Ryan Vicker took early and easy command of the NAPA hobby stock feature from his
front row starting spot. Most bets would have been for Vicker to run away with
the race, but 10th starting Brad Bergren quickly charged through the field and
ran down Vicker to challenge for the lead. Bergren wasted little time working by
Vicker and into the lead which he held comfortably the rest of the way with
Vicker, Jim Tull, Kevin Yearington and Matt Williamson rounding out the top
five.
Todd Owens out-gunned Tony Hardisty to take the early lead in the Northland Oil
pro street feature. Hardisty stayed close and by the mid-point of the race made
the pass for the lead. Owens then stayed within striking distance of Hardisty
the rest of the way and at the finish it was Hardisty, Owens, Ron Ballinger, Joe
Zadina and Jeff Orr in the top five.
The first lap of the Budweiser modified feature saw Richard Spriggs jump to the
lead, but by lap 2, Kirby Stiens powered to the front of the pack. Dan Mueller
knifed through the field and swapped the lead with Stiens for a few laps before
checking out on the field to take the win. At the stripe it was Mueller, Jeremy
Tibben, Jerry Carlson, Ryan Peckham and Stiens in the top five.
Kenny Edwards jumped ahead of Scott Koskovich to take the early lead in the
Whelen late model feature. By the completion of lap 2, Koskovich went low and
Corey Zeitner went to the high side of Edwards to go three wide for the lead
with Koskovich getting the lead for that lap. Zeitner and Koskovich put Edwards
behind them, but kept their high and low lines the rest of the way with Zeitner
holding a slim lead. In the closing laps, Chris Spieker joined Zeitner in the
high line to make it a three-car shootout. Koskovich was able to pull beside
Zeitner for the first time as the pair took the white flag, but Zeitner ran a
great final lap to seal the win ahead of Koskovich, Spieker, Paul Glendenning
and Trenton Jackson.
Join us next week for the second leg of the Nebraska-Iowa Challenger series
presented by Dodge with Dodge dual features for the Whelen late models.
