Jackson, Stewart, Zadina and Hudson Win at Adams County Speedway

CORNING, IA (June 30) - It was Whelen night at the Adams County Speedway for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. And the night of competitive racing was followed by a fireworks show shot with a beautiful full moon as a backdrop. Matt Hudson, Joe Zadina, Russell Stewart and Trent Jackson went home victorious from the night of racing.

Shain Sites shot to the early lead in the NAPA hobby stock feature. Sites held the lead until Matt Williamson worked up from his seventh starting position to take away the top spot. Williamson led the middle portion of the event until Matt Hudson moved from his twelfth starting spot to take the lead and go on to his third win of the season and third in a row. Second went to Jesse Sobbing followed by Trent Davison, Brad Bergren and Kevin Yearington.

The Northland Oil pro street feature was an event that saw plenty of action right at the head of the pack. Jeff Orr and Rick Pitzer swapped the lead for the first 12 laps with Orr leading when Craig Garner and Mike Garner moved to second and third and both pressured Orr for the spot. Mike Garner took the lead on the backstretch, only to have contact from Orr send them both spinning and to the rear on the restart. Craig Garner took the top spot from there but Joe Zadina found his was around and into the lead and Zadina went on to his first win of the season ahead of Craig Garner, Pitzer, Jeremy Swanson and Ron Ballinger.

The Budweiser modified saw a past champion return and lead the first few laps. Mark Wyman, piloting Jack Larson’s car, jumped from his second starting spot and into the lead. It didn’t take long for Russell Stewart to find the front after starting fifth as he ran down Wyman and took the lead. Once in the lead, Stewart pulled out to a comfortable margin. Ryan Peckham moved into second and slowly and surely reeled in Stewart and got within striking distance on the white flag lap. A caution then bunched the field and provided a green-white-checkered finish, but Peckham’s opportunity to get to Stewart was foiled when Kirby Stiens got by Peckham on the restart and left Stewart to get to the checkered first. At the line it was Stewart, Stiens, Peckham, Chris Hogan and Jeremy Tibben.

In the Whelen late model feature Scott Koskovich darted to the early lead and pulled away until Trent Jackson tracked him down and took over the spot by lap 11. Jackson then sped away and built up such a lead in the non-stop race that by the time Chris Spieker had moved into second, there were not enough laps to see if Jackson could be caught. Jackson recorded his third win of the season ahead of Spieker, Koskovich, Karl Ritterbusch and Paul Glendenning.
