Spieker, Tibben, Ballinger, Garner and Hudson come out on top
at Adams County Speedway
CORNING, IA (Aug 11) - It was a hot night for the NASCAR Whelen All-American
Series at the Adams County Speedway. Chris Spieker, Jeremy Tibben, Ron Ballinger
and Matt Hudson took feature event honors while Mike Garner topped the Northland
Oil pro street king of the hill.
Al Zeitner claimed the early lead in the Whelen late model feature. Chris
Spieker worked through the pack and ran down Zeitner to take the lead at the end
of lap 10. A late caution did nothing to slow Spieker, but it did create a
four-car shootout for second place. Spieker took his tenth win of the season
ahead of Paul Glendenning, Karl Ritterbusch, Jeremy Houck and Zeitner.
Dan Mueller and Chris Hogan battled for the early lead in the Budweiser modified
feature with Mueller getting the spot. Mueller held on until lap 10 when Jerry
Carlson charged into the lead. A late race caution made for a great five-car
scramble for the top spot. As the field came to the checkered Jeremy Tibben got
under Carlson and drag raced to the finish with Tibben winning by .003 seconds.
For Tibben it was his second win and he was followed to the finish by Carlson,
Mueller, Jeff James and Jeff Wiggins.
Craig Garner took the early lead in the Northland Oil pro street feature and led
until Steve Churchill shot into the lead. Churchill began to fade as Ron
Ballinger raced around the high side and into the lead with Jeremy Swanson
giving chase. Ballinger went on to his second win of the season, and also took
over the point lead. Following Ballinger was Swanson, Mike Garner, Joe Zadina
and Jeff Orr. Mike Garner capped the night by outrunning Zadina, Ballinger and
Swanson to take the King of the Hill presented by Sunoco/Diamond Oil/Ironman
Racing Supply.
Chris Vannausdle and Matt Hudson swapped the early lead in the NAPA hobby stock
with Hudson finally securing the spot by lap four. Hudson ran comfortably in
front the rest of the way to take his fifth win ahead of Brad Derry, Vannausdle,
Kevin Yearington and Jeremy Auten.
