IRWIN,DUNKER,RACHELS,WOOD AND BURGTORF ALL TAKE CHECKERS AT BLOOMFIELD
By: Tony Paris

BLOOMFIELD, Ia (May 26, 2006) - A beautiful night for racing action at the Mountain-Dew Bloomfield Speedway sponsored by Taylor Automotive, Lee Construction and IA-Mo Grain with five classes in action. The crowd was treated to some good old fashion wheel-to-wheel action with three and sometimes four wide racing on the fast 3/8 mile speedway.
In the USRA B-Modified feature Tony Dunker of Quincy, Il. took his second straight win of 2006 season at Bloomfield with Dunker holding off Chris Leathers and Joe Hooper of Mendon, Il. who tried several times to close in for the top spot and Hooper took second with Leathers in third and Amos Zimmerman of Memphis, Mo. in fourth.

The Hougland Repair Shop USRA Stock Car feature event went eighteen laps with Pat Rachels topping the always tough class beating twenty very good cars to the line for his first win of 2006. The runner-up spot went to rookie driver Colt Mather of Webster who raced his way from seventh to second. The third spot went to Jason Cook of Mt. Pleasant coming from fourteenth and Mike Harward taking fourth after starting nineteenth spot.

In the Kollision Korner Hornet division Tom Irwin took the checkers for his third win of 2006 and he battled with David Probasco of Moulton and Larry Hopkins of Ottumwa who all battled two and three wide for the win. The second spot went to last weeks winner Dale Porter of Floris who race his way into second with Hopkins taking third and Probasco in fourth.

It was the fifteenth lap Kirkland Auto USRA Hobby Stock feature rolling onto the speedway with Ray Lasser Jr. taking the early race lead and lead till lap seven before cutting a right rear tire down and ended his night at a chance for the win. Jason McDaniel of Eldon looked to have the race in hand but caution flag flew for Lance Meyer of Ottumwa spinning in turn one. This would setup a four lap shootout with McDaniel along with Nathan Wood of Sigourney and lat years champ Ben Jones of Williamsburg for a three car battle for the lead. Wood would take the lead going into turn one on the restart and took his second straight win at Bloomfield and sixth straight win at three different tracks. McDaniel took second with Mike Shelton of Ottumwa taking third and Rocky Fosdyck of Selma in fourth after starting in eleventh spot.

The final feature of the night was the Spilman Auto Parts USRA A-Modifieds going twenty laps with the caution flag flying on the start for Ken Bryant of Ottumwa making contact with the outside wall coming off turn two ending his night. Mark Burgtorf of Quincy topping the twenty-one car field leading all twenty laps. The second spot went to Tony Fraise of Donnellson with Jared Durbin of Ft. Madison in third and Michael Long also from Quincy, Il in fourth. This was Burgtorf second visit to victory lane but in two different classes.

Next weeks racing action will feature the second appearance of the Keith`s Foods Late Models in action with hot laps at 7:00pm and racing action to follow at 7:30 at the Davis County Fairgrounds in Bloomfield.
