SOGGY ENDING TO REGULAR SEASON AT MOUNTAIN DEW BLOOMFIELD SPEEDWAY
by: Jeff Nun

BLOOMFIELD, Iowa (Aug. 24) - Mother Nature reared her ugly head Friday, Aug. 24, as officials from the rain-soaked Mountain Dew Bloomfield (Iowa) Speedway were forced to cancel the Budweiser Season Championships at the historic Davis County Fairgrounds facility due to extremely wet conditions.

Friday morning, another band of thunderstorms was drenching communities from Missouri, through Iowa and into Illinois and Wisconsin. Most of Southern Iowa was under a flash flood watch through evening as much as eight inches of rain fell, the National Weather Service said. Just a few miles north of Bloomfield in Ottumwa, residents were asked to conserve water because the rain had backed up sewers and flooded a pump room at the water plant. The tap water wasn't contaminated yet, but the city's 25,000 residents were advised to boil it.

The event, which was to feature USRA Late Models and the Mid-America 305 Winged Sprints, along with four classes of cars in the USRA Casey’s General Stores Weekly Racing Series will not be rescheduled.

Track champions at the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway for 2007 are Steve Stewart of Washington (Spilman Auto Parts Modifieds), Matt Greiner of Washington (USRA Stock Cars), Paul Underwood of Ottumwa (USRA B-Mods), Jim Walker of Mystic (USRA Hobby Stocks) and Dale Porter of Pulaski (Kollision Korner Hornets).
