FOUR OUT OF FIVE FEATURES RUN BEFORE RAIN STOPS SEASON OPENER
By: Tony Paris

BLOOMFIELD, IOWA (June 6, 2010) - The season opener at the Mountain-Dew Bloomfield Speedway saw four of the five feature events get the checkers before the rain started falling and forcing the Golden Furrow Fertilizer B-Modified feature to be postponed and will run double features next week.

The opener saw added money in all classes with the action sponsored by Elmer Wood Company, Davis Seeds, Making Memories Flowers and Gifts, Piper Body Shop and Diamonds Pizza.

The first feature was the Taylor Automotive Stock Car division with a good battle for the lead with Mike Vangendren of Newton and Shane Weller of Agency going wheel-to-wheel with Vangendren taking the lead with Weller trying his best to make the pass but would spin his machine out and would see the caution flag closing the field up and the battle heated up between the two again. Vangendren would see a radiator hose blow and Weller would make the pass for the lead and take the checker flags. Vangendren in second and Gary Harward of Floris in third and Sam  McClure of floris taking the fourth spot.

The Kollision Korner mini-stock feature was also a battle with two cars for the lead with Devin Stills and Cassidy Kirkpatrick of Ottumwa going wheel-to-wheel and the feature went green to checkered for all ten laps. Kirkpatrick would lead the field to the white flag but would slow when he thought the caution came on and he slowed and this gave Devin Stills to take the checkers for the win. Kirkpatrick in second with Mike Fisher of Blakesburg in third and Trent Orwig also from Blakesburg taking fourth.

The Karr Collision Center hobby stocks feature saw a pair of number 2’s battle for the lead with Donavan Nunnikhoven of Sully taking the win in the Mark Moore Motorsports team. The runner-up spot went to Tony Teninty of Eldon who made the pass on the last lap on Derek Kirkland of Centerville with Kirkland taking third and Nick Ulin of Ottumwa in fourth. The 1X machine of Michael Peterson of Montezuma would roll a right rear tire and cause a two car crash collecting Andrew Hustead of Rutledge, Mo. on the way to the checker flag and both drivers walked away unhurt.

The Slayton Polaris A-Mods battle for the $850 payday and Ron Verbeek of Oskaloosa and Michael Long of Quincy, Il. Put on a awesome battle with the two drivers swapping the lead numerous times. Jim Lynch of Bloomfield who was running third had mechanical problems ending his run to the front. The final lap and final turn saw Verbeek spin his 4R machine and brought out a yellow checkers finish. Mark Widmar of Ottumwa taking second with Brandon Banks of Washington in third and Verbeek in fourth.

The final feature pulled on to the track and the rain started falling and forced the father and son promotions of R & J Promotions to run double features in this division.

A reminder that racing action will return on Friday night June 11th with all five classes with hot laps at 7:00 and racing action at 7:30PM.
