Gustin dominates Bloomfield USMTS go

BLOOMFIELD, Iowa (July 21) – When the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy got the green flag to start the 30-lap WIX Filters “A” Main Thursday night at the Bloomfield Speedway, it looked like Zack VanderBeek Might get his second win in as many nights.

It didn’t look that way for very long.

From the fourth starting spot, VanderBeek drove around front row starters Ron Ver Beek and Ryan Gustin to lead the first two laps of the main event, but once Gustin found his preferred line around the top of the racetrack it was all over.

Gustin powered back by VanderBeek to lead the third lap, and then proceeded to distance himself from the field over the final 27 laps en route to his 16th win of the season.

As the 20-year-old from Marshalltown, Iowa, took the checkered flag, VanderBeek was racing through traffic down the back-stretch on his way to a runner-up finish ahead of Terry Phillips, Kelly Shryock and Corey Dripps.

Thursday night’s event marked the fifth visit to Bloomfield for the USMTS Modifieds, and the first time Shryock was not the man in victory lane.

In addition to his $2,000 payday, Gustin also secured the Arnold Motor Supply Central States Region title – his third regional crown of the season – in garnering his 40th career USMTS feature win.

Rodney Sanders and Jason Krohn finished sixth and seventh, respectively, and were the last drivers not yet lapped by Gustin. Jeremy Payne, Colt Mather and Ver Beek rounded out the top 10 finishers.

On Friday and Saturday, July 21-22, all eyes point to the inaugural Silver Dollar Nationals at the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., for a two-day event during the $25,000-to-win Late Model show and two complete shows for the USMTS drivers that will close the curtain on the Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Great Plains Region and set the final group of drivers to qualify for this year’s Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Championship powered by Swan Energy.

The I-80 Speedway is a high-banked 4/10-mile clay oval located just two blocks north of I-80 at exit 420 (Ashland/Greenwood Exit), halfway between Omaha and Lincoln, Neb. For more information, call 402-659-3301 or check out www.i-80speedway.com.
