TIPPS, REES, SUMMY, METZGER, AND GOMEZ SCORE BIG WINS

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Ia. (April 28, 2006) - Brian Tipps proved the third time is the charm as he picked up is first 4 cylinder feature win in 2006 after leading the race two weeks in a row only to run out of gas one week and break the other. Mike Rees ended a long dry spell picking up a hobby stock feature win. Aaron Summy repeated picking up back-to-back IMCA feature wins. Jody Metzger and Jeff Guengerich put on an exciting show in the late model feature with five lead changes before Metzger scored his first feature win. Matt Gomez picked up his first career CJ Cruiser win to round out the night.

The hobby stock feature was off to a slow sart with a caution for Brad Ewart in turns 3 and 4 followed by another caution on the restart for Michael Frank II in turn 4. Darrin Ealey started on the pole on the restart and soon had the first place spot with Mike Rees in second and Mike Cassabaum in third. On lap 4, Mark Winkel made his way around Cassabaum for third right before the flagstand. One lap later Ealey went high in turn 4 with Rees going low for side by side racing coming out of turn 4, but Ealey held onto the lead while Cassabaum went to the pits, going down 5 laps before coming back on the track. With just 3 laps to go, Mike Rees dove down low in turn 4 and took the lead from Ealey. Rees holds on to pick up the feature win, Ealey takes second, and Winkel third. Rees and Winkel are now tied for the point lead.

Brandon Jay and Aaron Summy went around in turn 4 while at the front of the pack in the IMCA feature, in what looked like a well choregraphed move, pulling the caution but avoiding a major pile up. With Summy and Jay in the back, Staats moved to the outside of the first row on the restart with Shelly Mizell. Staats took the lead on the restart with Travis Finke in second. On lap 5, Staats went high in turn 4 with Finke driving under for the lead. The next time around Staats slid, giving Summy the chance to slide past for second. On lap 8 while leading the race Finke blew up, handing the lead over to Summy. Summy was able to hold on for the second win in a row, with Payne making the pass on the last lap to finish second for the third week in a row, Staats finished third. Payne has the point lead.

Jody Metzger was out front early on in the late model feature being challenged by Jeff Guengerich who was running in second. Guengerich dove low in turn 4 and came out with the lead on lap 5. One lap later Metzger took the high side going into turn 3 gaining on Guengerich and finally taking over first right before the flagstand. Two laps later Metzger went high in 4 with Guengerich taking the low side and the lead. It looked as though Guengerich had it wrapped up holding off Metzger for the next 9 laps, but coming out of turn 4 for the checkers, it was Metzger in front. Metzger picks up the feature win, Guengerich takes second, with Boyse in third. Guengerich has the point lead.

Matt Duncan made contact with Randy Foor in turns 3 and 4 bringing out an early caution in the 4 cylinder feature. On the restart James Malcom raced to the lead with Brian Tipps in second and Wayne Noble in third. One lap later though Tipps took the lead coming out of turn 4. Tipps, Malcom, and Noble led the pack for the rest of the race, including a caution on lap 4 when Mike Owens went over between turn 1 and 2 and when Derek Randall and Katie Kile made contact putting Kile into the wall out of turn 4 on lap 5. Tipps picks up his first 2006 feature win, Malcom takes second, and Noble finishes third. Noble has the point lead.

Josh Brown spun around in turn 4 while leading the field in the first lap of the CJ Cruiser feature bringing out the caution. Josh Mohror was hit while trying to avoid Brown, sending him in for a quick pit stop. John Verrips and Matt Gomez made up the first row on the restart. Gomez soon had the point and never looked back picking up his first CJ Cruiser feature win. Donnie Hawkins held the second place spot with Billy Faler in third before he dropped out on lap 4. RJ Richardson moved into the third place position. At the finish it's Gomez, Hawkins, and Richardson. Gomez is the current point leader.

CJ Raceway Relay For Life Favorite Driver for the Hobby Stock will be next week as we raise money for the American Cancer Society.
